Breastfeeding? Nursing? Feeding your baby? This is YOUR month!

Anna and her baby,
taken by her 9 y/o daughter
|
Happy National Breastfeeding Month! We are pumped! Of course I intended that pun....do you blame me? Here is a great shot of our Founder, Anna Getty nursing her baby Roman, born earlier this summer. Isn't it dreamy? That is what I remember most about breastfeeding my daughter, I did for around 20 months, and I have zero recollection of anything annoying. I never wanted my body back, I wasn't that bummed about the night feedings, I loved the versatility of it all. But mostly I remember it being this special time when she and I were united. We weren't always in dreamy dreamland, but it was an important moment in my life. I didn't type on the computer, watch TV, or talk on the phone during it. I used it as a chill time and early on as a bonding time with her. It doesn't last forever folks, and when its over, it is O-V-E-R. Never to happen again, unless you get pregnant... Sigh. We have highlighted some fab blog articles for you to peruse, and check back in with us during the month for more perceptions and experiences around nursing and those that chose not to. And take a look at our schedule for the fun social media events coming up starting TOMORROW. We have giveaways, chats, parties, Check it out!

During the months and weeks before and after baby arrives you'll likely be spending more time at home nesting. A few key pieces are key to helping you transition from pregnancy to motherhood in comfort.
Here are four must-haves for your changing body:

Preparing to Breastfeed
When Pregnant
by Medela
You may have heard of the old wives' tale that suggests pregnant women "toughen up" their nipples with a washcloth to prepare for breastfeeding. If you think this sounds horrifying, you're right! There's absolutely no need to do so - but there are several other (much less painful) ways to get ready for a successful breastfeeding journey.
Breastfeeding might be natural, but it's also a learned skill and both you and your baby will be new at it. By learning in advance about how breastfeeding works and identifying where to turn if you need help, you can set yourself up for a beautiful and fulfilling breastfeeding experience.
