Is your family prepared for an emergency? Do you have an emergency preparedness kit with all of the essentials? At the end of this class, you'll be familiar with earthquake, fire and tsunami, and the risks associated with each. You'll know how to protect your little ones, yourself and your belongings. Finally, you'll be able to identify basic things you can do today that will help your family be prepared and improve your resiliency after an emergency. You will be trained to hazard hunt around your home to identify potential dangers, develop a family communications plan, become familiar with areas in Los Angeles that are at risk for tsunami, learn important fire evacuation tips, receive basic fire extinguisher training, and much more.

For Expecting Mommies
April 3rd at 6pm in Santa Monica

Why didn't anybody talk to us about this before the baby was born? This is the most common protest that I hear in my new moms' support class! Right now you are expecting a baby and you have probably been busy finding a good obstetrician and doula, taking childbirth preparation and baby care classes, and getting your baby registry together. All those things are certainly important, but have you taken a moment to ask any of the following questions: What is the best way to bond as a new family right after baby comes home? What are the signs to be aware for postpartum depression and is it true that dads can experience PPD as well? How do you nourish your relationship as a couple when you are both in the throws of caring for a newborn? These are just a few of the questions that new parents wished they thought about before baby arrived!

This workshop is designed for expecting couples to explore ahead of time the expectations and realities of what life will be like once baby is here. Talking about what parenting is really like - busting myths like "breastfeeding is easy and comes naturally" - will help you prepare for parenthood in a way that having the best diaper cake or baby wipe warmer just won't do. Come join us.

For babies 6-15 months old

"Coo's, Babble, and Talk" teaches parents how to communicate with their little ones by introducing language comprehension and expression through play, while also offering the opportunity for caregivers to ask questions and try hands-on techniques that will get their children 'talking.' As the child enters 3-6 months of age, language and communication skills taught through play are essential for their overall cognitive development and important to nurture daily through songs, toys, talking, and basic baby sign language. This in turn will help prevent speech and language delays by the time they enter preschool and elementary school. Practicing these simple techniques goes a long way in our little one's speech and language development!

Your baby discovers language through YOU - first through coo's, then babbling, and eventually (through play and lots of modeling) will begin to 'talk.' "Coos, Babble, and Talk" offers you everyday techniques on how to model age appropriate language, have fun with babbling, take turns 'talking,' and how to 'wait' for language. Through this class, parents will learn a variety of important ways to enhance speech and language development. We will be learning about how to introduce front, middle, and back sounds to our little ones, teach our little ones how to coordinate movement with their tongue, lips, and jaw, teach appropriate prosody in a "fun" way, and help increase our little one's vocabulary in order to become good verbal communicators in the future.
