Sleepy Planet

Daylight Savings this Sunday, March 9
Before bed, turn clocks ahead 1 hour. If your child normally sleeps till 6:30 AM, the next morning she will likely sleep till 7:30 AM. Her entire schedule - naps and bedtime - will then shift one hour later.

Congratulations! You are expecting a (or have a new) baby and one of the most asked questions is...."How will my dog react to the baby?" The answer lays way Beyond the Dog, because the truth is that the preparation and responsibility is with the dog parents. I have encountered countless clients over the years that have been backed into a situation where the owner had not known they needed to prepare the dog for all the changes in the household and their long loved family pet ends up being given away or even worse in a shelter due to what is perceived as "aggressive" behavior. Behind so-called aggression is confusion, a dog's natural dog state is to please their family and through preparation, consistency and boundaries - families can all live in perfect harmony together, including the family pet.
  1. You're Pregnant....begin the training NOW! One of the most challenging situations I encounter is when a client waits to prepare their dog until the week before the baby is due. You, as parents, have had nine whole months to prepare for the big life change that is baby. Make sure to give your dog the same nine months of preparation; it will make all the difference. Myth Busters: What is it Really Like After Baby Arrives?

with Dr. Jill Campbell

  • Westlake Village: March 31st at 6:30pm
  • Santa Monica: April 3rd at 6:00pm

Why didn't anybody talk to us about this before the baby was born? This is the most common protest that I hear in my new moms' support class! Right now you are expecting a baby and you have probably been busy finding a good obstetrician and doula, taking childbirth preparation and baby care classes, and getting your baby registry together. All those things are certainly important, but have you taken a moment to ask any of the following questions: What is the best way to bond as a new family right after baby comes home? What are the signs to be aware for postpartum depression and is it true that dads can experience PPD as well? How do you nourish your relationship as a couple when you are both in the throws of caring for a newborn? These are just a few of the questions that new parents wished they thought about before baby arrived!

This workshop is designed for expecting couples to explore ahead of time the expectations and realities of what life will be like once baby is here. Talking about what parenting is really like - busting myths like "breastfeeding is easy and comes naturally" - will help you prepare for parenthood in a way that having the best diaper cake or baby wipe warmer just won't do. Come join us.

Are you a bit baffled about all the changes in infant care? Are your swaddling skills a bit rusty? How can you best support a new breastfeeding mother? Why are babies now sleeping on their backs? Who is the new Dr. Spock? Can you talk the talk? What is "attachment parenting," "skin-to-skin" contact, the "Five S's" "white noise", and "babywearing"? And how does that car seat work, anyway? Come and enjoy a glass of wine while Wendy explains what's new in parenting and why. You can be the best informed and Happiest Grandparent on the Block!

"Dear Pump Station,
I'm just a tiny baby, but I heard my two daddies talking to their mommy friend while they thought I was napping. She was telling them all about the cool and helpful things she's been learning in her mommy and me class. I know they don't want to be the only daddies in a mommy and me class, but - between you and me -- I really think they could use a few tips! Let's face it - they really love me, but they're new to this daddy thing and it would be great for them to have a little help and support. I think they would really like to have other daddies to hang out with and talk about all the changes and craziness I have apparently brought into their lives!"

Come learn interactive communication with your baby. Infant Massage is magic, loving touch that helps create a healthy bond between babies and their parents, grandparents, and caregivers. Massage helps improve communication and contributes to a baby's development. It helps aid digestion, strengthens the immune system, and helps a baby sleep more deeply. This Hot Topic will focus on colic, gas and relaxation techniques through massage. There will also be a discussion of the benefits of essential oils and how they correspond specifically to infant massage and the health of your baby. Infant Massage is a great way to connect with your little one throughout their childhood.
