Awesome Little Beings Global Storytime: Help Your Child Learn To Love Reading
This 6-week session begins in 3 weeks for 0-12 month olds with Christabel Nsiah-Buadi is a Writer, Broadcaster and Cultural Literacy advocate.
Early literacy outlines what children know about reading and writing before they can actually read and write. Concepts like 'Book Awareness' and 'Print Awareness' are central to building your child's literacy. We say that learning how to read can be -and should be- fun!
It's never too early to encourage a love of reading in your child. Through this six-part, hands on workshop, you'll discover new stories and learn how to develop your child's book and 'Cultural Literacy,' which we at ALB define as 'having the ability to see that all cultures have equal value.' This is learned through the images we see and the protagonists in our books. The workshop is open to parents with children ages 0-12 months. During each session, Christabel Nsiah-Buadi will read books featuring new faces and different cultures. You'll have an opportunity to read one on one to your child. We'll also give you tips on how to peak your baby's interest and keep the story fresh for you!

with Jill Campbell, Psy.D New Moms' Drop-in Support Group(pre-crawlers only) Thursdays from 1- 2:15pmHaving a baby is a time of joy and celebration, but becoming a new mother in today's world can be hard. While this time is of course filled with love and wonder, it can also be filled with pressure and confusion. You have to say good-bye to your old life and your old self while you are learning a whole new role that you might not yet have confidence in. As new mothers, we often have an unrealistic image in our heads of being this perfect mother who always knows exactly what do to and how to be. Our drop-in groups include:- An open Q & A discussion forum led by a licensed clinical psychologist.
- Songs, exercises, music and movement to help promote your baby's development and have fun!
- A peaceful, non-judgmental atmosphere where you will meet other new moms like yourself and gain an on-going support system.
Prenatal Drop-in Support GroupThursdays from 6:00pm-7:00pmYou are expecting your first child, congratulations! You have probably been busy finding a good obstetrician and doula, taking childbirth preparation and baby care classes, and getting your baby registry together. But what have you done to take care of yourself? Everyone tells you that once your baby arrives, your life will be forever changed. Intellectually you understand this, but have you had time to emotionally and psychologically prepare and process this? Attend our prenatal support group and do just that. Our prenatal support group is designed to be a place to come, share and explore not only your pregnancy, but also your soon-to-be new role as mother in a relaxed, supportive environment. Groups are led by a licensed clinical psychologist in non-judgmental atmosphere. Here you can ask questions, gain information, and share your expectations and fears with other expectant mothers. Start building your village now so that when your new baby arrives you will already have a solid support system in place! Click here for more info or call 310-998-1981.

with Pattie Fitzgerald, Certified Child Safety Educator February 5th at 6:30pm
"An Ounce of Prevention" by Pattie Fitzgerald, founder of safelyeverafter.com, gives parents a comprehensive look at the myth of "stranger-danger,"' and why parents can better serve their kids by talking about "Tricky People!" Pattie will guide you through some simple safety rules that resonate with young children and will also help parents recognize when someone is "thumbs up or thumbs down," by identifying red flag grooming tricks and other warning signs of inappropriate people. This class will help you understand how to keep playdates and other outings safe for your children, without turning you into a helicopter parent or making you paranoid. Pattie's approach is all about common sense, listening to your "uh-oh feeling," and she does it all with a positive, friendly "mom-vibe." Have Milk, Will Travel: Adventures in Breastfeeding
The Pump Station & Nurtury™ founders Corky Harvey and Wendy Haldeman wrote the forewords for Have Milk, Will Travel: Adventures in Breastfeeding, a new book of laugh-out-loud stories about life as the one-stop milk shop. And even better: half of the stories come from our The Pump Station™ moms!
This month's excerpt comes from
Maria Polonchek, who blogs at
writingbetweenfriends.com. When she was pregnant, Maria writes, "I assumed breastfeeding would come easily and that I might even have moments of euphoria I've heard described by other mothers. Even when I found out I was having twins, when people really started to question my decision, I didn't think twice. Two boobies, two babies, right? I couldn't get more efficient if I tried."
"I was not prepared for the phenomenon that is 'over-production."
Check out Have Milk, Will Travel, available at your local The Pump Station & Nurtury store for the rest of this milky story. Click here to get your copy today!
