AGES: We don't ask! CLASS DESCRIPTION: Are you a little nervous that things have changed so much since you were a new parent that you won't know how to help with your new grandbaby? Are you rusty on your swaddling skills and do you need to learn a bit more about how to support a breastfeeding mom? What position should the baby sleep in? Who is the new Dr. Spock? Can you talk the talk? What's "attachment parenting," "skin-to-skin contact," the "Five 'S's of the calming reflex," "white noise," and "babywearing"? And how does that car seat work, anyway? Come enjoy a snack, a cup of coffee, or a glass of wine while Corky explains what's new in parenting today and why. You can be the Happiest Grandma or Grandpa on the block. Click here...

Ask Your Childcare Questions Here:
Visit our Facebook page to ask Westside Nannies your most burning
nanny-related questions. Each week, they will answer questions featured in our Class Newsletter published at the end of the week!
This week's question & answer:
Q: We are about to make an offer to a nanny for the first time. What are the benefits of creating a work agreement or contract to officiate the offer?
A: Creating a formal work agreement or contract is highly recommended when making an offer to a new nanny. Nannies often go unrecognized as professional employees since they are caring for children in a private home; however, a work agreement sets professional standards upfront, which can save you grief in the long run. The work agreement between you and your nanny should include sections such as schedule (hours and days), pay, vacation/sick days, holidays, gas and expense reimbursement, travel pay, and your expectations of how the termination process should be handled on either side if it ever came to that. Creating this agreement will allow you and your nanny to set boundaries and expectations at the beginning of your relationship and can always be referred to if a problem arises. Should you ever renegotiate your nanny's terms, make sure to update your work agreement!
