Celiac and Gluten Sensitivity Research Update:
Snippets from ICDS 2015 (Part 2)

Due to the popularity of last month's article, Celiac and Gluten Sensitivity Research Update: Ten Snippets from ICDS 2015, and requests for more snippets, I am summarizing seven additional studies from the 16th International Celiac Disease Symposium. Again, the summaries are brief, consumer-friendly extracts, not detailed medical explanations. They are important to anyone who follows a gluten-free diet. Read more

The Family Chef: Butternut Squash and Sage Risotto

By Amy Fothergill - There is something about the flavor of butternut squash and sage; I just love it! It reminds me of fall. However, if you don't have sage handy, thyme would be a great substitute. This hearty dish is also wonderful with any root vegetable like turnip, carrot, parsnip, rutabaga, and sweet potato.

By Vic Dolcourt - A community college teacher in Berkeley is sharing the ethos and flavors of her native Vienna by remaking Viennese pastry and bread recipes as gluten free, baking them in her kitchen and selling them via the California Homemade Food Act. Barbara Widhalm, owner of Babsi's Viennese Treats, is launching her company by selling European delicacies at farmers' markets and creating pop-up Viennese coffee houses.  Read more

We are seeking a Napa support group
co-leader!

The Celiac Community Foundation of Northern California runs a quarterly support group at Whole Foods in Napa. We are seeking a kind, organized and responsible local resident to co-lead the group.

You do not need to be an "expert," and you can be recently diagnosed or the parent of a child with celiac disease.  You do need to adhere to our mission of evidence-based support.

It's light duty, well supported by our foundation, and it is an essential role in our support network. For more information, please contact Jennifer Iscol jiscol@celiaccommunity.org.
