Congratulations to Troop 679 and Boy Scouts from Cub Scout Pack 301 and 161 who joined forces to enter the Disneyland lottery!

The 2013 Cookie Program is right around the corner! The following trainings are available for new Troop Cookie Chairs - these are designed for brand new folks, but are good for anyone who needs a refresher.

Troop Happenings! Thank you, girls!
Shafter Troop #876 had a Scavenger Hunt to collect canned food for the needy in our area. The girls collected 300 cans in 1 hour!

BEHIND THE SCENES special for Scouts at "How To Train Your Dragon" show on Dec 21
Dreamworks invites all Girl Scouts who purchased tickets to an exciting Pre-Show Tech-Talk Friday December 21st featuring two stars from the show, Gemma Nguyen and Gavin Sainsbury! Gemma shares the role of Astrid and Gavin is the head of puppetry (he makes the dragons come to life!). Gemma and Gavin will answer questions and give you behind the scenes information about this amazing live spectacular! The clinic will be approximately 20 minutes long and Scouts can pick up their patches at this time, so don't miss out!

Make sure you have your tickets to the show - tickets will be scanned at the door. Scouts and their families will be escorted to section 103 for the clinic. Please note that once guests are in the venue they cannot leave and come back.

Please do not leave any financial or registration papers, cash or checks in the Council drop-boxes in Fresno and Bakersfield. We keep a daily log of all documents and other materials left in the drop-boxes.

What can a Girl Scout do when disaster strikes?
We can help guide girls who want to know how they can help after a disaster. GSUSA has shared with us these valuable guidelines about Girl Scout leadership in times of disaster, for both girls and adults.

The DuPont Challenge encourages students in grades 7-12 to research and write a 700-1,000 word essay addressing challenging topics in four categories: "Together, we can feed the world," "Together, we can build a secure energy future," "Together, we can protect people and the environment," and "Together, we can be innovative anywhere." Award prizes total more than $100,000 and include U.S. Savings Bonds for all winners and a special awards trip to Orlando, Florida for the top two students in each division.

Make a difference in a child's life this holiday season!
Girl Scouts and troops are invited to donate toys for children in need in our local communities this holiday season. New toys can be dropped off at the Council offices in Fresno and Bakersfield, during store hours, no later than Monday December 17.
Last year, your donated toys brought joy to more than 200 children at Angels of Grace foster care in Fresno, and Blessings Corner in Bakersfield.
For each act of youth service shared on the Be a Joy Maker website from now through December 18, Hasbro will donate a toy to Toys for Toys to be distributed to kids in need - up to 100,000 toys!

The Sodexo Foundation and Youth Service America (YSA) are calling on young people to "take hunger personally" and join the fight to end childhood hunger. Grants of $500 are available for youth-led service projects that bring together young people, families, and other community members to address childhood hunger. Young people in the United States, ages 5-25, are eligible to apply. Funded projects should take place on or around Global Youth Service Day, April 26-28, 2013.
