Partners and Supporters
Welcome
ACHPER aims to advocate for Health and Physical Education (HPE), Sport and Recreation in schools. What does this mean to you in primary and secondary schools, in research and academic intuitions?

Advocating is to publicly support or suggest an idea, development or way to improve a cause.  With a federal election imminent it is timely to ask ourselves as educators why are we passionately involved with educative outcomes within schools and other settings?   The answer to that question will be different for all individuals. ACHPER may consider that as the leading member-based professional association advocating for quality health and physical education curriculum, supporting professional learning of teachers and promoting active and healthy living for all Australians, we, ACHPER share education as a common advocacy goal.

In support of the health and well-being of young children across Australia, ACHPER will hold its annual National Health and Physical Education (HPE) Day on Wednesday September 14 in 2016.

#ACHPER2017 Update
Registration to attend the 30th ACHPER International Conference is now open! A range of fee options are available for single or multiple day attendance as well as a reduced rate for tertiary students.

ACHPER Gala | The National Gallery of Australia
Tuesday January 17, 2016

The National Gallery of Australia is home to the largest art museum in Australia and holds more than 166,000 works of art ranging from Australia (including Indigenous art), Asia and Europe. Located in the heart of Canberra, it will provide a perfect backdrop to this Gala event.

Bring the Olympics to Your Classroom
Bring the Olympics to your classroom with the Australian Olympic Committee's Education program!

Primary school teachers can now download 60 cross-curriculum lesson plans themed on the Rio Games and the 2016 Australian Olympic Team!

The resources are linked to the national curriculum and are offered across three stages of learning - lower primary, middle primary and upper primary.

Primary students can learn about the sports, venues, marketing and sustainability of the first South American Games as well as discover more about their Olympian heroes in athlete profiles and the making of the Australian team uniform.

You can also help decorate the Olympic Village with our Village Art program which has had great success in the past with over 2,000 students submitting artworks for the London 2012 Games.

Schools can also run their own Olympic Day event in 2016 to celebrate the birthday of the modern Olympic Games!

More information about the Olympic Education program can found online at http://education.olympics.com.au.

This year, ACHPER National is encouraging schools, children, teachers and communities to take the challenge and be involved in our #HPEday competition. Simply take photos and videos of active participation in physical activity and upload them onto social media using the #HPEday hashtag. Some great and relevant prizes to be won for the most creative entries!

BLOG: Active Transport.... what's getting in the road?
The 2015 Progress Report Card on Active Transport was delivered in November 2015 which scored Australia a 'C' for Active Transport - this is a 42% decline in active transport participation rates in children over the past 40 years.

This Blog post provides an insight into why such a decline in active transport has occurred and what opportunities are available in helping children to become more active.
