Partners and Supporters
WELCOME
Welcome back to the 2016 school and academic year.  In a year that sees the commencement of implementation changes to HPE curriculum delivery for many states, sectors and jurisdictions, this year may present challenges for teachers and school leaders alike.  ACHPER offers support through advocacy, partnership and professional learning to enable you, your school, university or sport and health setting to be engaged with current pedagogy and agendas in educative health and sporting contexts.  ACHPER strongly advises you to check with your state authority to determine the implementation schedule for the Australian Curriculum for Health and Physical Education (AC:HPE) in your local context.

ACHPER includes a state and national calendar of professional learning opportunities that will be presented over the year to offer currency of upskilling to teachers.  The 30th ACHPER International Conference in Canberra in January 2017 is also an event to be planning towards as the sub themes of the conference deliver specifically to the five propositions of the Australian Curriculum: Health and Physical Education.  Recognising that learning is enhanced when teachers are aware of the five interrelated proposition that underpin the AC:HPE, the Conference is inclusive of these propositions and also recognises the value of sport within our communities and schools.   The five propositions for the AC:HPE are: focusing on the educative purposes of HPE; developing health literacy; including a critical inquiry approach; taking a strengths based approach and valuing movement.

The Future of Coaching in a Changing World: "The good, the bad and the game centred approach"

An average 21 year old in western society has spent a parallel life in playing video games, leading to the notion that video games are a central part of many people's lives today. What is it about gaming that captivates the human mind and how can they be aligned to the game centred approach in PE and Sport?

Amy Price from St Mary's University in London discusses how the principles of 'good digital game design' can be used to re-shape the use of the game centred approach in teaching and coaching.
