WELCOME
The 29th ACHPER International Conference in Adelaide from April 13-15 2015 provided over 400 delegates with a dynamic, world-class professional learning experience. The conference theme, Values into Action - A Brighter Future, offered a focus on the critical importance of developing curriculum understandings, with opportunities to engage with latest evidence-based research and provide teachers with support to enhance quality pedagogy practices.

The conference reiterated that Health and Physical Education is an investment in the future health and wellbeing of our youth, and must be a learning area that is highly valued at school if we want to provide a foundation for lifelong active and healthy living. This foundation of wellbeing is the entitlement of all Australian students.

Ten 'Links we Like'
'After 20 minutes of physical activity, students tested better in reading, spelling and maths'. A great infographic that shows the benefits of physical activity to students' learning. Helps to justify why you need more hours in the curriculum!

Check it out, plus the other 'links we like' in this ACHPER Blog post.

'Supporting Success' - Coaching adolescents with Autism in a multi-sport program
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) poses substantial challenges for those affected and their families, including participation in physical activity. Coaches play a paramount role in providing the 'right' environment for youth with ASD.

'Supporting Success' - a joint project between Modbury Special School, the University of South Australia and several other sport and not-for-profit organisations in SA - aims to identify and implement good practice coaching practices to develop social skills among adolescents with ASD through sport. The preliminary work outlines some key observations about how to coach youth with ASD.
