WELCOME
Welcome back to the school and academic year.

Advocacy may be defined as the ability to influence positive outcomes in decision making that will influence elements in your school such as engagement with Health and Physical Education (HPE), Principal support, access to professional learning opportunities, and investment in your school's physical environment, sport and HPE programs.

2015 will bring opportunities for you to make a difference in your advocacy contributions. Advocacy may enable you to provide programs and influence healthy and active educative outcomes in your schools and wider communities.

In order to support you, ACHPER National has released two National Position Statements to give you access to information that will strengthen and offer clarity to your advocacy.

The Importance of the HPE learning area in schools
ACHPER National has developed a Position Statement on the Importance of the Health and Physical Education learning area in schools to assist teachers, parents and caregivers, school principals and administrators, kindred scientific, professional and service organisations to understand and advocate HPE curriculum implementation, to enable real change.

Support for the Australian Curriculum: HPE
ACHPER National, in its Position Statement Support for the Australian Curriculum: Health and Physical Education, advocates for high quality well-resourced professional development opportunities for teachers focused on improving confidence and competence in planning and delivery of HPE curriculum content and knowledge of valid and authentic assessment practices in HPE.

Celebrating 60 years in 2015
2015 holds a particular significance for ACHPER, celebrating 60 years of being a national organisation, with its beginnings going back to the Australian Physical Education Association.

To recognise this momentous milestone, ACHPER will be celebrating and reflecting on the successes of the past and the opportunities and challenges that will have a profound impact on its future during the 29th ACHPER International Conference.

2015 Professional Learning
Now is a great time to think about your professional learning needs for 2015. There are a number of workshops and conferences for both primary and secondary teachers being held by your ACHPER branch this year to inspire you to new heights with your teaching.

You can view Term 1 events via the National PD Calendar. This is updated regularly so make sure you keep checking back.
