Fall Updates & Opportunities for the Linked Learning Field!!
California has a New Dual Enrollment Law: Governor Brown Signed AB288
There is great news on dual enrollment for regions that have or are building Linked Learning pathways - Governor Jerry Brown signed AB 288 authored by Assemblymember Chris Holden (D-Pasadena). This bill makes it easier for students to  take college classes while still in high school by authorizing community college districts to enter into a College and Career Access Pathways partnership with school districts with the goal of developing seamless pathways from high school to community college for career technical education or preparation for transfer, improving high school graduation rates, or helping high school students achieve college and career readiness. This bill makes dual enrollment more accessible to a broader range of students than were previously allowed under state law.

Governor Brown added a message when he signed the law, stating, "This bill is an example of how K-12 and higher education institutions can work together on a local level to solve persistent problems - in this case, how to create better pathways to college and career for students who are struggling or are underrepresented in higher education. I believe these flexible, locally based arrangements will be useful, and I encourage local governing boards to consider these dual enrollment partnerships as they work to improve student success and time to degree."

The Linked Learning Alliance applauds Assemblymember Holden for his leadership on dual enrollment. A big thank you is also due to the California Community College Chancellor (CCC) Brice Harris and CCC Vice Chancellor Vincent Stewart. Thanks to their commitment and skill leading the advocacy effort for dual enrollment, this bill will open dual enrollment opportunities to many students in Linked Learning pathways.
