Christian Formation Classes Begin 10:00 AM Sunday

The Adult Forum
"The Episcopal Church - General Convention - & Me"  The Chapel

Led by The Reverend George Muir, this class will discuss the actions of the 78th General Convention, and its implications for the Episcopal Church and us individually. (The General Convention is the governing body of The Episcopal Church that meets every three years.)

Family Foundation  (parents)
"Who do you say that I am?" -  located in the Children's Ministry Center

Do we really need Jesus today when we have Google?  Doesn't Google have the answer for everything?  Join us on Sunday morning as we seek to know this person called Jesus.  Who is the Messiah?  What was he like?  Who was the first to recognize Jesus when he began his ministry?  Did Jesus ever turn away anyone who sought to be a disciple?  Family Foundations is a Sunday morning Bible study for parents focusing on the Gospel lessons of the current lectionary cycle. This sequential study places the weekly readings from our Sunday worship into a full narrative of the core teachings of Jesus. The class provides a background and context for the beginning of a personal faith journey and a "foundation" for our families' faith, while connecting parents at Saint Paul's.

Youth (Grades 9-12)
Upstairs parish house - Room B

We are excited about the changes in the Youth Christian Formation Program. This year The Reverend John Jenkins is leading a class for high school students.

Youth (Grades 6-8)
Upstairs parish house - Room A

Our youth will begin a new curriculum which focuses on BEING Christian rather than just talking ABOUT Christianity, and at the end of the multi-year program the youth themselves decide whether they are ready for the Rite of Confirmation.

 (Grades 3-5)
F.I.S.H. room in the Children's Ministry Center

Children (Grades 1-2)
Kids of the Kingdom room in the Children's Ministry Center

Children (Age 3-K) -
First Steps in Faith room (across from the nursery) in Children's Ministry Center

All three classes use a curriculum called Spark which follows our Sunday Lectionary Lessons. The program is designed to help families and children make connections between Sunday school, church, and home. Classes are separated by age with age appropriate lessons and activities.

Parents are provided a Family Connection Sheet each week with ideas to talk about during the week. Children's worship bulletins for readers and early readers are also available.

Manna Pantry
Friday and Saturday, September 18-19
Manna Pantry is a ministry that provides food to 130 families and individuals throughout the year. Friday volunteers help unload the truck, arrange tables, assemble boxes, open and sort items, and box food for persons who will need special assistance the next day. Saturday volunteers will greet and check in guests, then fill their boxes as they move them along the tables cafeteria-style. Some volunteers are needed to assist persons by carrying their loaded boxes to their cars.  This is a good ministry for adults, teens, and older children with parents.  For more information contact Anita Tanner or by telephone (706) 993-5720.

Ironman News

Please mark your calendar for the Augusta Ironman 70.3 weekend on Saturday, September 26th and on race day, Sunday, September 27th.  Saint Paul's Church is located next to the starting line of the largest Half-Ironman event in the world.  There are 3,000 triathletes registered for this sellout event!  The race brings athletes and spectators from our own parish, community, country, and from around the world to downtown Augusta and gives our parish the opportunity to demonstrate Christ's love to our guests and give them a warm welcome to our neighborhood.

There are many opportunities for parish members to get involved. Including the following:

  • Volunteering at the Saint Paul's/TriAugusta Pasta Dinner on Saturday, September 26th from 5:30 pm to 8 PM in the River Room.  We will welcome athletes and their families for a delicious home-cooked pasta dinner and provide them with the opportunity to fellowship with each other and our parish on the eve of the race.  Volunteers are needed to assist with food preparation, serving our guests, and cleaning up.
  • Volunteering at the Swim Gear Drop off on Sunday, September 27th from 5:00 am to 8:30 AM.  Volunteers will gather at the marina parking lot on race morning and assist athletes who are dropping off a small bag of personal items before they enter the water for the race. Volunteers will also be needed to direct athletes to the starting line Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome.   To volunteer please click here.  Choose the Saint Paul's Gear Drop Team from the drop-down box and complete requested information.
  • Volunteering with River Room Hospitality on Sunday, September 27th.
Our doors will open at 5 AM and be open throughout the morning to provide athletes a comfortable place to relax before the start of their race and a space for families and spectators who are waiting on their athletes.  Complimentary coffee, water, and light refreshments will be served.  Volunteers are needed to help serve refreshments and to welcome our guests and demonstrate our Saint Paul's hospitality.
  • Saint Paul's cheer station will be set up on Broad Street.  The exact location will be announced closer to race day.  Parishioners are invited to join us after the 11 AM service to cheer on the runners as they complete the last leg of their race.  It will be a wonderful time of fellowship and fun!
We look forward to seeing you on race weekend!  It will be an exciting weekend for Saint Paul's and Augusta!  If you have question or would like additional information, please contact Kim Butler or by phone at 706.833.8541.
