New Parish Directory
Photography Dates
We're excited to announce that we will have a new Parish Directory.  Help us to build a tool that will put names with faces and ensure we have updated contact information for all our parishioners. We will use Lifetouch Photography to complete our Parish Directory. Photography dates at Saint Paul's are October 13-17.

We will begin scheduling appointments Sunday, September 13.  Please stop by the table in the Narthex on Sunday morning beginning September 13th or at our parish dinner in the River Room following the 11:00 AM service on September 13th.

For your convenience we will also provide a link in the Weekly Postings and on our website so that you may schedule an appointment on-line.  These links will be available September 4th.
Next WeekAugust 31 - September 6
Parish Office Volunteers
Saint Paul's needs more volunteers (both women and men welcome!) to answer the telephone and greet those who come to the office at Saint Paul's. There are a few openings in our weekly schedule, from either 9 am - 12 noon, or from 12 noon until 3 pm. It's a great way to get to know the Saint Paul's community. We schedule volunteers for only one month at a time, and so this need not be a long-term commitment on your part. Contact Mary Lou Harrold or 706-737-3838  to learn more.
Donate Summer Sunday Guest Musicians
The choirs begin singing on Sunday, September 13th. Until then our music will be provided by guest musicians. Please donate the music on a summer Sunday by making your gift as a memorial or thanksgiving. Please contact Keith Shafer, for details  or (706)724-2485 ext. #215.
Ironman News

Please mark your calendar for the Augusta Ironman 70.3 weekend on Saturday, September 26th and on race day, Sunday, September 27th.  Saint Paul's Church is located next to the starting line of the largest Half-Ironman event in the world.  There are 3,000 triathletes registered for this sellout event!  The race brings athletes and spectators from our own parish, community, country, and from around the world to downtown Augusta and gives our parish the opportunity to demonstrate Christ's love to our guests and give them a warm welcome to our neighborhood.

There are many opportunities for parish members to get involved. Including the following:

  • Volunteering at the Saint Paul's/TriAugusta Pasta Dinner on Saturday, September 26th from 5:30 pm to 8 pm in the River Room.  We will welcome athletes and their families for a delicious home-cooked pasta dinner and provide them with the opportunity to fellowship with each other and our parish on the eve of the race.  Volunteers are needed to assist with food preparation, serving our guests, and cleaning up.
  • Volunteering at the Swim Gear Drop off on Sunday, September 27th from 5:00 am to 8:30 am.  Volunteers will gather at the marina parking lot on race morning and assist athletes who are dropping off a small bag of personal items before they enter the water for the race. Volunteers will also be needed to direct athletes to the starting line Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome.   To volunteer please click here.  Choose the Saint Paul's Gear Drop Team from the drop-down box and complete requested information.
  • Volunteering with River Room Hospitality on Sunday, September 27th.
Our doors will open at 5 am and be open throughout the morning to provide athletes a comfortable place to relax before the start of their race and a space for families and spectators who are waiting on their athletes.  Complimentary coffee, water, and light refreshments will be served.  Volunteers are needed to help serve refreshments and to welcome our guests and demonstrate our Saint Paul's hospitality.
  • Saint Paul's cheer station will be set up on Broad Street.  The exact location will be announced closer to race day.  Parishioners are invited to join us after the 11 am service to cheer on the runners as they complete the last leg of their race.  It will be a wonderful time of fellowship and fun!
We look forward to seeing you on race weekend!  It will be an exciting weekend for Saint Paul's and Augusta!  If you have question or would like additional information, please contact Kim Butler or by phone at 706.833.8541.

News from the Diocese of GA

Each week the Diocese of Georgia will share a bulletin insert.
The goal is simply to spread good news through the Diocese and unite our congregations with knowledge of what everyone is accomplishing in their own communities.

We have chosen to share this information with you through the
Weekly Postings.  An archive of the Weekly Newsletter from the Diocese, "From the Field," is available here.  If you would like to receive the full newsletter from the Diocese, add your email address to the sign-up page on the bottom of the home page for the Diocese of GA.
Columba House Begins Third Year

With two missioners and three fellows, Columba House is getting underway for its third year of ministry. Columba House is an Episcopal intentional community where young people reside together, binding their spiritual journeys together for a summer or for up to two years.

Columba House offers two residential programs for young adults who want to live intentionally and serve passionately. The first is a full-time residential internship and the second is a part-time residential fellowship. Interns and Fellows will live together intentionally in community through sharing a house, breaking bread, praying, and learning together. Interns and Fellows will support Columba House's mission to build spiritual community among young adults. There will be leadership opportunities and avenues to explore one's gifts. Columba House's residential programs are 10 months from August to June with an option to extend for a second year.

Living in the house as a part of the community are our missioners Guillermo Arboleda and Kelly Steele. Married in May 2014, these diocesan staff members bring experience living in a similar community while attending Duke Divinity School which will assist them in leading this ministry.

This year, the program has three fellows: Gabriella Caballero, Emmy Baird, and Mark Mizelle. The three will work or study full-time, live in intentional community at Columba House, and engage the young adult community in Savannah.

Missioner Kelly Steele said "Because we are committed to living like Jesus, we pray and worship God a lot: daily and weekly. Because we're trying to dig deep, some of us live together as housemates and commit to a Rule of Life." She then added, "Because we believe in hospitality, we welcome folks of all stripes to join us in prayer and in our common life."

Expanding to Augusta

A house on Central Avenue in Augusta will now be home to the Diocese of Georgia's second Columba House. The Diocese can open this second intentional community and center for young adult ministry thanks to a generous gift to the Campaign for Congregational Development by an Augusta Episcopalian. Columba House Augusta is located on a busy corridor between Georgia Regents University (GRU) and the GRU Medical School. This work is overseen by the Columba House Augusta Advisory Board.

Columba House is named for the 6th century Irish abbot and missionary who founded a monastery in present day Scotland. That community shared the love of God with the Picts who lived around them, leading to the evangelization of Scotland.

The Campaign for Congregational Development
Columba House is one of the strategies put forward in the Campaign for Congregational Development to foster young adult leadership. The priorities of the Campaign fall into three areas-Congregational Development; Clergy and Lay Leadership Development, and Formation of Youth and Young Adult Leadership. Within each of those three areas, there are three specific campaign priorities. Find more at campaign.georgiaepiscopal.org
