Senior Warden's Weekly Report to the Parish Fellow Parishioners: We made the "whisper number"! A pledge came in last week that put us over $600,000 in pledged income for 2014, a 19.7% increase over last year. We received 186 pledges during the 2013 campaign which was an 8.8% increase over the 2012 campaign and 19.2% above 2011. George, Ann Ewell, Braye Boardman, Kelsey Hutto, and I attended the Consortium of Endowed Episcopal Parishs' Annual Conference last weekend in Atlanta. We'll be having debriefing sessions in the coming weeks to compare notes since we all attended different workshops. I can safely report that new technologies in stewardship, outreach, pastoral care, education, evangelism, and parish life are being utilized extensively by the member churches of the Consortium. Some of this is very exciting. To some of us who might be categorized in a more mature demographic, use of a few of these technologies is a little scary. We will definitely be bringing some new ideas to the Vestry retreat this weekend. |

The conference also provided a great opportunity to interact with clergy and lay leadership from larger parishes throughout the country. In one workshop I sat between a Bishop from New York and the Dean of the Cathedral in Salinas, Kansas. The Dean was 39 years old. It was also quite clear from the conversations with folks from around the country that the Episcopal Church faces some real challenges in the coming years. One of these challenges is a shortage of experienced priests due to a large group of retirements which will take place in the next three years. More on this later.
In summary, our participation in this conference will prove quite beneficial to the parish as we plan for the future.
We had some minor roof damage as a result of the ice storm, but much less than we initially thought.
Blessings,
Monty

Thanks to the broad support of Saint Paul's Congregation, good publicity, and our Outreach volunteers our Mardi Gras themed fundraiser was another great success! Thanks also to the talents of our volunteer event planners / decorators, the River Room was transformed into an elegant , and sparkling New Orleans Mardi Gras venue.
We saw record turnout, largely due to the fact that attendees invited friends and family to join them in the revelry. We scrambled to facilitate entrance to the River Room at jammed ticket lines , to set up additional tables and seating in the River Room, and to serve the crowd of silent auction bidders in the Berlin Room. The buffet line was popular as usual, dispensing delicious homemade traditional Mardi Gras fare. Our acolyte volunteers were star performers in helping with the overflow of diners.
The sound system was overwhelmed by the roar of the crowd, but George" bellowed" assistance in getting positive attention for our live auction in the River Room. The" Paul Roberts Band" kept colorful, enthusiastic dancers on the floor with a lively range of good music and vocals.
Finally our personable and capable bar keepers helped put extra spark into the proceedings. I can truthfully boast that there is no finer Mardi Gras celebration in the CSRA. Finally, the best outcome of all will be the food aid provided by our Church's generosity for hunger challenged of our City.
Thanks to all who participated from your Outreach Committee.
