Fellow Parishioners:
The 264th Annual Meeting of Saint Paul's Parish was a festive occasion and quite uplifting. We recognized and thanked some very special people for significant gifts made to our church and its ministries during the past year. We reported on, and celebrated, the progress we made during 2013 and our many achievements in our ministries and mission. We elected three outstanding new vestry members and after the business meeting we enjoyed dinner and a time of parish fellowship. It was a very good day.
Although we made a great deal of progress in 2013, we have much more to do. The positive momentum that was generated in 2013 will provide the impetus for even more progress in 2014 as we expand our ministries and further our mission.

Our Vestry retreat will be held during the weekend of March 7 and 8. We will be establishing specific goals and objectives for the coming year at this gathering. Responsibilities for achieving these plans will also be assigned. (This is always the most interesting part). Parish input into this process is very helpful and necessary, so let the wardens, vestry, and clergy hear from you.
The annual conference of the Consortium of Endowed Episcopal Parishes is being held in Atlanta the weekend before the vestry retreat. Ann Ewell, Braye Boardman, George, Kelsey, and I will be attending this conference. Hopefully, we will return with information and knowledge that will be of value in our planning efforts at the vestry retreat and in other areas of parish life.
We are up to 184 pledges and $598,000 in dollars pledged for 2014. We are very close to the "whisper number".
Blessings,
Monty

Toxic Charity Seminar Saturday, March 15, 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Church of the Holy Comforter
Robert Lupton, author of Toxic Charity, will be presenting a seminar on this topic at Church of the Holy Comforter, Saturday March 15, 9:30 am - 3:00 pm. The cost is $20 per person and includes lunch.
Lupton is a veteran urban activist in Atlanta and founder of FCS Urban Ministries (Focused Community Strategies). He proposes that our current models of outreach actually do more harm than good, becoming "toxic charity." The Toxic Charity seminar will show us how to start serving needy and impoverished members of our communities in a way that will lead to lasting, real-world change.
Church of the Holy Comforter is located at 473 Fury's Ferry Road, Martinez, Georgia, 30907. To register, call the church office at 706-210-1133 or e-mail administrator Emily Mumford. |
