The Adult Forum: A study and discussion of the works of Flannery O'Connor.
Mary Flannery O'Connor (March 25, 1925 - August 3, 1964) was an American writer and essayist and Georgia native. An important voice in American literature, O'Connor wrote two nov els and 32 short stories. She was a Southern writer who often wrote in a Southern Gothic style. This style includes deeply flawed, disturbing or eccentric characters, ambivalent gender roles and decayed or derelict settings, grotesque situations, and other sinister events relating to or coming from poverty, alienation, racism, crime, and violence. O'Connor's writing also reflected her own Roman Catholic faith, and frequently examined questions of morality and ethics.
Our time with Miss O'Connor with begin with an overview of her life and the events that helped make her one of the most intriguing and powerful southern writers. We will continue as we discuss one of her most popular and award winning short stories Revelation published in 1964. Click here for a link to this short story.
The Adult Forum will meet in the Chapel beginning at 10:00 a.m.
