 PaceSetter Awards


Pacesetter awards 

  

 

The Pace Center for Civic Engagement awarded its first annual Pacesetter Awards on May 8, 2013 in recognition of exceptional student and faculty community service and civic engagement work.

 

The winners are:

  • Shirley Gao, Class of 2013, the A. James Fisher, Jr. Memorial Award for her "entrepreneurial spirit, love of people, zest for life, and loyalty to Princeton." Her involvement with the Pace Center included, among others, the Pace Center on Civic Values, Breakout Princeton program and the Community Walk initiative.
  • Charlie Jacobson, Class of 2016, for organizing and leading University volunteers who participated in relief efforts following Hurricane Sandy this past fall.
  • Lucie Wright, Class of 2014, and Claire Nuchtern, Class of 2015, for addressing a program need in the form of the newly reformatted spring semester Community Service Kickoff/Service for Every Schedule.
  • Gillian Knapp, professor of astrophysical sciences, for helping to start the Prison Teaching Initiative (PTI) in 2006 and her continued commitment to the volunteer program where Princeton faculty, staff, graduate students and post-doctoral candidate teach courses at several state prisons in New Jersey.
  • Ross Lerner, a fifth year graduate student in English, for his commitment to the Prison Teaching Initiative by increasing the number of classes offered and recruiting new volunteer teachers from the University.
