Next Winter Clothing Drive - February
|
Volunteers distributed winter clothing to day laborers on Little River Turnpike in December. Click the photo to see more pictures.
|
Winter temperatures have arrived across our area, causing us to reach for our winter coats and scarves. If you have unused warm winter outer wear, consider donating it to ACCA's next winter clothing drive in February. Items needed include jackets, coats, hooded sweatshirts, heavy sweaters, stocking type hats, gloves, and heavy scarves.
Bring clothing donations to the ACCA furniture warehouse (located on the campus of Annandale United Methodist Church) on Saturday Feb. 20, between 8 a.m. and noon. ACCA churches can also arrange for a pickup of donated items. The clothing will be distributed on Monday, Feb. 21. Questions? Please contact the Di Spirito's at 703-256-9513 or email ddmld@verizon.net or dondispirito@verizon.net.

"Stuff the Bus' Coming to Annandale
| Click the image above to download the flyer. |
The county-wide "Stuff the Bus" campaign to collect food donations for needy families will be at the Annandale Giant on Saturday, Feb. 13. A Fastran Bus will be parked in the parking lot and shoppers will be encouraged to purchase extra items to donate to the ACCA Food Pantry. Joe Carter, Giant store manager, has agreed to prepare pre-packaged $5 and $10 bags of food for customers to purchase based on ACCA's needs.
Volunteers are needed to staff a table inside the store between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. in 2-hour (minimum) shifts. Volunteers are also needed to unload the bus at the Food Pantry beginning at 4:45 p.m. Both are great opportunities for students who need community service hours.
To volunteer, please contact Mary Lee Di Spirito, at 703-256-9513 or email ddmld@verizon.net. Please indicate the hours you are available.
"Stuff the Bus" is a joint effort sponsored by the Fairfax County government, Giant Food, Shoppers Food and Pharmacy, Walmart and MV Transportation, Inc.

Busy Children at ACCA CDC
The three-year-old class at the ACCA Child Development Center keeps very busy, as photos from their Facebook album show. Follow the ACCA Child Development Center on Facebook to see regular updates on the children and on the importance of quality early education for our youngest learners.

In Memoriam
ACCA mourns the passing in December of George Davis. With his wife Betty Jane, George and members of Queen of Apostles parish worked with Fred Ruffing and others to establish ACCA in 1967. George served as president, worked for many years as furniture chairman, and founded the Ruffing Scholarship program as a memorial to Fred. He was also active in many other ACCA ministries, and his deep faith and sense of humor helped guide ACCA over the years. He will be missed.
