Do you know an Annandale High School senior whose volunteer service has made a difference in our community? ACCA is accepting nominations for the 2015 Making a Difference Award, given each year to a graduating senior at Annandale High School. The award includes recognition during the school's annual Awards Day and a monetary gift.
To nominate a deserving young person, please use the nomination form here. Each nominee will be notified and asked to submit an essay describing why volunteering is important, what they have done, and the impact of their service on the community. The deadline for making a nomination is April 3.
The Making a Difference Award is made possible through the generosity of Mrs. Jina Kim of Evergreen Title Company, Annandale, Va.

Family Emergency Assistance
ACCA served 39 households in February, providing more than $25,000 in emergency cash assistance. Among those served was a single woman who is taking care of her sister's five children. Her sister had a stroke and was in a coma. The woman was unable to pay her electric bill. ACCA assisted her and prevented the power from being disconnected.
In two other cases, ACCA served families who were providing a home for extended family members, but were having difficulty shouldering the added expense. In both cases, ACCA paid a portion of their rent. On behalf of all who were served, thank you to our generous donors for making this assistance possible.

Intrepid Food Pantry volunteers made 88 deliveries, assisting 240 individuals in February, despite the wintry weather. The local community supported these efforts by donating more than 1,000 lbs. of food and $300 cash during the "Stuff the Bus" food drive at The Annandale Giant on February 14. Thank you to all who donated food items and cash. Thanks also to volunteers from St. Alban's, among others, who helped restock the Pantry shelves.
The St. Alban's Girl Scout Troops also led a successful food drive in February. Additionally, Fairfax County Supervisors John Cook and Penny Gross have sponsored efforts to collect food for the ACCA Food Pantry. Supervisor Gross is collecting donations in a box outside her office at the Mason District Government Center through April 6.

Furniture Ministry
Snow and cold weather limited the Furniture Ministry to operating on only two Saturdays in February. Still, they completed deliveries to 18 households and 12 pickups. More than 25 dedicated volunteers helped make this possible.
The Furniture Ministry received a very large donation of 68 mattress and box springs sets from two hotels. Collecting them was a full day's work for a crew of eight using ACCA's two box trucks and a 26-foot truck made available to us by the Little River Ward of the LDS Church. We are extremely grateful to the donors and the volunteers who moved them to temporary storage.

Meals on Wheels and Transportation

Transportation volunteers provided rides for seven clients.

April 25 -- Rebuilding Together
Mark your calendar for the 2015 Rebuilding Together event, when teams of ACCA volunteers will help two local homeowners with repairs and renovations to make their homes safe and secure.
Volunteers are needed to help with skilled and unskilled tasks such as painting, clearing brush and making minor repairs. To date, Annandale United Methodist, John Calvin & Providence Presbyterian, Ravensworth Baptist, St. Barnabas Episcopal and the LDS Annandale Stake have signed up to work. Please contact Marie Monsen mamonsen@verizon.net if you can lend a hand.
To make a donation to cover the cost of supplies, donate, please send a check to ACCA, 7200 Columbia Pike, Annandale, VA, 22003 or donate online. In either case, please specify "Rebuilding Together."
