A Message from our Membership Chair
Faith Boone

I have been a board member for the Cleveland chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists for a year now, but I have been connected to SPJ since college. It has offered so many opportunities that have helped me in multiple ways.
I've met interesting and inspiring individuals. I've heard engaging stories and seen breathtaking photographs. I've been able to share my own experiences with others. And all of this happened because SPJ is an organization that is committed to promoting the flow of information and inspiring people to become dedicated journalists. I joined because of my passion for the journalism industry -- SPJ helps me to keep that passion alive.
I urge you, and all loyal journalists who understand the importance the journalism industry serves, to join our organization if you haven't yet done so. Being a member of SPJ gives you access to information that will further your knowledge of journalism, keep you in the loop regarding trends and news pertaining to the industry, offer chances to meet renowned and respected members of the journalism community, and have diverse experiences that will open your eyes to avenues of the industry you may have not had the opportunity of exploring.
Benefits of being a member include a subscription to SPJ's Quill Magazine, opportunities to attend unique professional development programs (including some online - see webinars story below), significant discounts to regional and national journalism conferences, access to an exclusive list of media-related jobs as well as internships and fellowships, and many more invaluable advantages.
If you are a supporter of fighting the battles for freedom of information, maintaining high standards and ethical behavior when practicing journalism, and ensuring that future generations follow suit, this is an organization you can join and be proud of your decision. Take that enthusiasm and put it into an organization that wants to guarantee that our industry has a future.
To become a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, visit spj.org or call 317-927-8000. And, don't forget to join myself and the rest of the members of the Cleveland board and register to be a part of your local Cleveland chapter as well!

Internships & Fellowships

The Celebrity Cafe:

Times are a-changin' and TheCelebrityCafe.com is changing too.

In case you hadn't heard, we were purchased in December by Bigfoot Ventures, LLC. We have an amazing support system with them and are thriving.

Back in February we tried a new communications app called Slack.com. It is an amazing tool for our diversified office, and has been adopted by many major news outlets, like the Associated Press, The London Times and Slate. It's been invaluable to us, and offers us open lines of communication with staff and interns in real time, and not in our in-boxes.

February also brought us another site to manage, and TheCelebrityCafe.com team is now in charge of FashionWeek.com. Fashion Week is also partnered with our sister company Fashion One TV and provides content for broadcast television.

We've hired eight new freelancers in the past couple of months, in addition to the two full time staff positions added in February.

Fingers crossed, we will relaunch TheCelebrityCafe.com in early September, moving from Drupal to WordPress and getting a truly fresh look. Our new logo is designed by Katie Schwendiman, from Utah Valley University, as are quite a few of the logos on Fashion Week - you'll see her photo credits in the stories.

And that brings us around to fall semester.

We are looking for writing, copy editing, social media and music reviewing interns for the fall semester. The editor-in-chief, Angela Corry, is also looking for a business administration intern, who will shadow and help her for the semester in all that she does.
