Get a taste of Cleveland's restaurant scene

Rodney Bengston
Rodney Bengston

People truly do seem to have an

appetite to hear about Cleveland's

restaurant scene.

Many people have been generous with emails and calls offering suggestions. This event will focus on the restaurant scene, but we may consider other food programs down the line.

Joe Crea of the Northeast Media Group and Kim Schneider of Cleveland Magazine will talk about how Greater Clevelanders like to chow down.

Just to give you a little, ahem, flavor of Crea and Schneider here are their bios:

Joe Crea, as restaurants and dining editor for the Northeast
Ohio Media Group, provides coverage of the local dining seen for both cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer. He's the author of the popular weekly column, "Restaurant Row," and many other widely read features including a list of top 100 area restaurants. Joe worked his way up from dishwasher to sous-chef over 15 years in the restaurant business before landing his first job as food editor for a newspaper in Florida. He's been covering the Cleveland restaurant scene sincejoining The Plain Dealer 16 years ago.

Kim Schneider is the editor behind Cleveland Magazine's inventive "Dish" section. Whether she's waging in-office guacamole wars or driving her CFO crazy by expensing $300 worth of cookies, she's always keeping the magazine's food coverage fresh. She is currently working on Cleveland Magazine's "Silver Spoon" issue, featuring the area's definitive dining awards. As an avid cupcake connoisseur, she realized a dream by putting a cupcake on the cover of the February issue.

The event is set for 6:30 Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the Market Garden Brewery, 1947 W. 25th Street in Cleveland.

It is open to both SPJ members and non-members.

Admission: $5 (appetizers will be provided; cash bar). The admission fee will be waived with the purchase of new SPJ memberships. Free parking available.

Hope to see everybody there.

Rodney Bengston

President, SPJ Cleveland
