Although much of the focus in this book is on creating success in business, the fact is that there is no real distinction between the values that drive successful businesses and the values that drive other parts of our lives. Unfortunately, it is in the business world that values - at least those unrelated to generating profits - haven't always had a fair hearing. It's unfortunate because the belief that values unrelated to profits are irrelevant to business success is just wrong - yet it has dominated our culture for decades, and has redefined capitalism as a voracious moneymaking machine. But we all know that businesses are created and run by people. People have values that form the foundation of their lives. These values drive people's decision-making and direct their goals. So why should we believe that business could be immune from them? In fact, business is the perfect environment in which to live out our abiding values.
