Canine Influenza Update: Asheville and WNC
Everyone wants an answer to these questions:
* Are veterinarians in Asheville seeing fewer cases of H3N2 influenza?
* Is it safe for my dog to resume his/her normal life whether it be walking around the block, attending day care, boarding, going to the groomer, attending classes, going to the dog park, or socializing with other dogs?
Unfortunately, it is very difficult to stay well versed on what the true incidence of influenza is at other animal hospitals or in the general area since there is no central reporting agency, most dogs exhibiting respiratory symptoms are not tested for the virus, and many may not be seen by a veterinarian at all.

Xylitol - It's Not Just In Gum Anymore
As many pet owners know, xylitol is toxic to dogs. Even seemingly small amounts of a product with xylitol can cause life-threatening hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and liver failure. The most well-known source of xylitol is sugar-free gum. In addition to finding xylitol in gum, sugar-free candies, mints, and baked goods, we are now seeing it in many healthcare products.
