Join Us in Welcoming Two New Veterinarians!
Animal Hospital of North Asheville has great news! Dr. Jennifer Sim, who has been undergoing advanced training in veterinary dentistry and oral surgery since 2006, has joined our team. While we are thankful that Dr. Sim will be able to provide additional and much needed appointments for dentistry and oral surgery, there is even better news! Read more about Dr. Sim here.
After reviewing hundreds of applications and interviewing many candidates, we are thrilled to welcome Dr. Amy Parker to Animal Hospital of North Asheville. In addition to her academic success and vast experience, Dr. Parker stood out from the other candidates - Learn more about Dr. Parker here.
While we are happy to add new veterinarians to the practice, we are sad to have to say goodbye to Dr. Caroline Kiss. Dr. Kiss joined AHNA in 2012 to do general dentistry, but switched over to outpatient medicine last June. She has enjoyed her time at AHNA, but has decided to move closer to her family out west. We will miss her, and wish her the best!

Parked Car Reaches 117 degrees in 30 Minutes! Leaving Pets in Parked Cars is Dangerous.
A veterinarian stays in a parked car on a summer day to prove how dangerous it is to leave a pet inside a car. The car reaches 117 degrees within 30 minutes with all four windows opened 1 to 2 inches. This is extremely dangerous as dogs and cats don't perspire the same way humans do. Understanding Quality of Life in Companion Animals
By: Beth Marchitelli, DVM Beth Marchitelli, DVM is a veterinarian with 4 Paws Farewell which provides home hospice and home euthanasia for pets. Our veterinarians work closely with 4 Paws Farewell when clients desire home visits concerning end of life issues. More information about the services of 4 Paws Farewell can found here. Of course, Animal Hospital of North Asheville continues to provide hospice and euthanasia care here at the hospital. You can read more about our Bereavement Room and the care we offer by clicking here. Truly understanding quality of life in our animal companions is an especially difficult task due to their inability to verbally communicate with us. I am sure we have all wished our companions could verbalize what they were experiencing whether this was related to understanding which toys they would prefer or whether or not they are in pain - Click Here to learn more.

S.T.E.P.S. - Alternatives to Choke Chains, Prong Collars, & Other Aversive Methods
By: Evelyn Albine Konopik, RVT
Veterinary medicine has evolved over the years in many ways, but one of the most important changes is that pain management has become a staple in veterinary medicine. It is important to pet parents and veterinary staff alike that our furry friends experience as little pain as possible during medical procedures and in their day-to-day lives. When it comes to dog training and behavior modification, however, this effort often goes out the window. Aversive methods causing discomfort and pain to our pets, such as choke chains, pinch collars, and shock collars, are still commonly used for behavior management and/or confinement, even though positive training methods have been used and promoted over the past three to four decades, and are proven to lead to better results - Click Here to learn more.

Safe and Effective Puppy Socialization
AHNA Education Room - July 22nd at 7pm Young puppies have a very special time period from the age of three to sixteen weeks during which their experiences form lasting social behaviors. Testimonial: I was really impressed
I brought my dog, Olive Oil, to Animal Hospital of North Asheville and it was a wonderful experience - as good, or better care than what I would expect for my own child, if I had children.
Dr. Thompson went above and beyond what a medical doctor for people would do. He called to check on Olive Oil multiple times and was very concerned about how she was recovering. I was really impressed.
