AHNA April 2013 Newsletter
AHNA is 1 of 3 Hospitals in North Carolina Certified as a Gold Standard Cat Friendly Practice
We are thrilled to announce that we are certified as a Gold Standard Cat Friendly Practice by the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP). The Cat Friendly Practice program is designed to recognize hospitals that provide the highest level of care to your cat and recognize those that also abide by practices that make your cat feel relaxed. Only a small number of hospitals achieve the Gold Standard level of certification. At this time, we are one of three hospitals in North Carolina to achieve this recognition.

Please VOTE for AHNA!
Vote for Animal Hospital of North Asheville as 'Best Veterinarian' in the WNC Parent Family Choice Awards! (Please vote for the hospital and not individual veterinarians.) We were thrilled to win last year, and we couldn't have done it without you. To be sure your vote is counted, you must vote in 20 categories.

Thank you! Your support means everything to us.

Contact All Star!
We wanted to share the great news that Animal Hospital of North Asheville has recently won two awards: the Superior Service Award from Angie's List and the All Star award from Constant Contact, our online service provider that emails our newsletter.

We received the award from Angie's List because everyone who has reviewed our hospital on their site has given us an 'A'! Constant Contact gave us the All Star award because out of the 500,000 businesses they serve, ours has one of the most active and engaged audiences - meaning, you open and read our newsletter. Thank you if you are reading our newsletter right now!

AHNA Sponsors Paws on Parade Walk-A-Thon

Paws on a Mission is calling all dogs, dog lovers, families and friends to the annual Paws on Parade Walk-A-Thon on Saturday, April 27, 2013, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Carrier Park on Amboy Road in West Asheville.

Hosted by Mission Foundation, and sponsored by Animal Hospital of North Asheville, dogs and their people will be raising funds for the Paws on a Mission Pet Therapy Program at Mission Health. This year's goal is to raise $10,000 - Click Here to read more.

S.T.E.P.S. - Results of National Pet Obesity Survey
The U.S. pet population has been increasing in size, literally. Pet obesity rates are continuing to rise resulting in the number of overweight cats reaching an all time high. Dr Ernie Ward, the founder and president of the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention (APOP), conducts an annual survey with the assistance of veterinary offices throughout the United States. Last October the Animal Hospital of North Asheville participated in the National Pet Obesity Awareness Survey Day. On the day of the survey, our wonderful clients filled out a simple questionnaire indicating how they perceived their pet's weight. These answers, along with the doctor's assessment of the pet's weight and a brief medical history, were sent to the APOP to be compiled along with the results from - Click Here to read more.
Hot Spots - 'Tis the Season
By Dr. Dennis Golden

Sam is a beautiful 12 year old male Golden Retriever with the amazing personality that you would expect from the breed. He is "happy go lucky," loyal, loves attention, and is particularly fond of shamelessly sneaking over and eating his feline roommate's cat food when nobody is watching! Unfortunately, as a Golden Retriever, he also has an increased susceptibility to a common skin condition of dogs commonly known as hot spots. Recently, Sam's owners discovered a hot spot under his right ear that seemed to develop, literally, overnight - Click Here to read more.

Testimonial: AHNA is Superior
We brought our first puppy to AHNA in 1986, and now twenty-seven years later, we cannot imagine entrusting our pets' healthcare to anyone other than this family of dedicated doctors, technicians, and client care staff. They are constantly involving themselves in continuing education to bring the most cutting-edge technology in treatments for our pets. Above all, it is the beautiful spirit that is felt when one enters those doors... the warm greeting and assistance from the client care team is always appreciated, as are the tasty treats for our dogs.

This is a place where everyone is made to feel like family because of their gifts of genuine concern and compassion. As busy as the doctors are, each of them finds the time to call and check on a patient at home, or have a phone consult with an out-of-town vet if something happens away from home - To read the rest of this testimonial, Click Here.

By embracing new knowledge and state-of-the-art technology, our mission at AHNA is to provide the highest level of medical, dental and surgical care possible; to deliver it with integrity and compassion for our clients, but most importantly, to constantly see ourselves through the eyes of our voiceless patients who understand only that we are gentle and kind; to have as our first priority, relief of their pain and discomfort and to strive to minimize separation from the people they love.
