Help for Behavioral Issues
At Animal Hospital of North Asheville, we strive to care for all of your pet's health needs, but we realize that there are some challenges, such as behavioral issues, that may require a team-based approach. For many behavior problems, a treatment plan that includes medical evaluation, behavior modification, and drug therapy is needed. In other cases, problem-specific training is needed along with general obedience training. In some cases of ongoing behavioral issues, you may benefit from calling on Kim Brophey.

Halloween Hints for Pets

No Fright, No Fear for Pets This Year!

Halloween is so much fun, and it's natural to want to try to involve your family pet in all the activity. It's important to keep in mind, though, that not all Halloween activities are fun or safe for pets. A few simple precautions can keep your spooky celebrations enjoyable for everyone in the family, whether they are two footed or four footed.

Sentinel and Interceptor News

Thank you to our wonderful clients for being so  understanding during the shortage of Sentinel and Interceptor. As you know, it is very important to have your pet on a preventative for heartworms, hookworms, roundworms and whipworms twelve months a year! We have prescribed Sentinel for years to prevent heartworms, intestinal parasites including whipworms, and fleas. Interceptor has been prescribed as a cheaper alternative to prevent heartworms and intestinal parasites including whipworms (but Interceptor does not prevent fleas).

Due to the fact that we were able to buy a large quantity of Sentinel and Interceptor at the outset of the shortage, we thought that we could ration our Sentinel and Interceptor to make it last so that our patients could avoid switching to a different drug. The shortage of Sentinel and Interceptor is now in its tenth month, which is much longer than originally predicted, so we now find it necessary to switch our patients to the best alternative drugs available. Magic Has a New Home!
We are so excited to report that Magic, the dog who was severely neglected, rescued by Asheville Humane Society, and given life-saving care by Animal Hospital of North Asheville, has found a new home.

Helping Magic has truly been a community effort. Asheville Humane Society (AHS) rescued Magic from a truly horrific situation, Dr. Plankenhorn immediately donated her time to care for Magic's health issues here at AHNA, our clients Rick Clark and Marti Touchstone provided foster and rehabilitative care, and now a couple from Candler has adopted Magic. We are thrilled that Magic will know a lifetime of love and care.

We wish Magic and his new family the very best and are honored to be a part of his journey to a new and better life. To watch a video about Magic's adoption, Click Here.
AHS Volunteers of the Year
Congratulations to our clients, Linda and Bill Brown, who were recently named Asheville Humane Society's "Volunteers of the Year!" We admire the work you do in our community. Thank you for everything you have done to help homeless animals in Buncombe County.
