ANOTHER FUN ARTIST INTERVIEW:
my chat in the rain
with
GRACE POTTER
(Grace Potter & the Nocturnals)
note from Val ~
I landed an interview (unexpectedly) with one of my favorite artists in the world: Grace Potter, of Grace Potter & the Nocturnals. It was in Burlington, VT last month at her home-town fest, Grand Point North -- a cool boutique music fest with two days of music, a dozen bands, and GPN headlining both nights. The weather didn't cooperate on Day 1 -- cold and rainy. And that's when the call came. Festival PR Manager Adam Klein (who's always looking out for me and Valslist) said, "You've got Grace at 1pm - can you get here?" I was at a nearby restaurant having lunch (fest doesn't start til 3pm), grabbed my notebook (questions I've had for years just in case I ever got the chance to interview her) and ran. We were led to an outdoor "green room" tent backstage in the pouring rain, with soundcheck going on right behind us, both of us wet rats and ready... Her manager and assistant were there, we turned on the camera and started. I didn't have a mic. I was frantic because sound is everything, especially when there's so much big noise going on around you. I worried that the audio would be impossible to hear. But we rolled. Recording on two different devices just as a safety net...
I got home, gave the raw footage to one of my new staff members, Becca Friedland who is a film wiz -- and asked her to work magic on this to capture the essence of Grace. Becca delivered.
Give a listen - this interview is stripped down, nothing fancy, the real deal.
