Governor Signs Medi-Cal Payment Legislation
CPhA is excited to announce that yesterday afternoon Governor Jerry Brown signed CPhA-sponsored AB 1114 (Eggman) into law.  AB 1114 authorizes pharmacists to bill Medi-Cal for the service component of administering immunizations, furnishing hormonal contraceptives, naloxone, nicotine replacement therapy, and travel medicines, as well as smoking cessation counseling.
"This bill represents the next step in CPhA's efforts to build a sustainable model for ensuring patients have access to pharmacist-delivered services," said Jon R. Roth, CPhA CEO. "Today we celebrate this exciting victory for the pharmacy profession and look forward to the future for continued progress."  CPhA is already working to secure reimbursement for additional services in Medi-Cal and other insurance programs.
We also thank Assemblymember Susan Eggman for her leadership and for being a champion of the pharmacy profession.  AB 1114 will help improve access to these important services for Medi-Cal patients.  Please take a moment to use CPhA's automated system to send a thank you to Ms. Eggman here.
Over the coming months, CPhA will work with the Medi-Cal program in their implementation of AB 1114 and will be releasing additional resources for members to bring these services to your patients.
