CMS Improves Medicare Drug and Health Plans

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) today issued final regulations (CMS-4159-F) for the Medicare Advantage and prescription drug benefit (Part D) programs that continue efforts to curb fraud and abuse and to improve benefits and the quality of care for seniors and people with disabilities enrolled in these programs.  The final rule is projected to save an estimated $1.615 billion over the next ten years 2015 - 2024. Read more...

SEIU Teams Up with Hospitals, Withdraws Ballot Initiatives

The California Hospital Association and Service Employees International Union say they have reached a "unique agreement" that will "change the face of healthcare in California."

And in the process, the two ballot initiatives SEIU backed - that would have put dramatic limits on both hospital charges and CEO compensation - are being withdrawn. Read more...

No Monday Strike for Kaiser Permanente Pharmacists

Many Kaiser Permanente patients scrambled to fill their prescriptions over the weekend as more than 1,400 Kaiser pharmacists threatened to go on strike because of a labor dispute.

But continuing negotiations pushed off a Monday strike. It was not immediately clear whether pharmacists still plan to strike if an agreement is reached later this week. Read more...
