Not all our projects require hardhats and a forklift, but we are busy updating our aisles with new product and signage.
Aisle 9 was the first project completed and you now have new choices of window and door seals, thresholds and floor transitions.
Second project completed was aisle 21 where we installed a new Kitchen and Bath Center. Again, new product and a wonderful display to help you make those important decisions.
Two more aisles will soon be seeing big changes. Mid August the electrical aisle will be changed, bringing you 12 feet of LED lights, giving you many more lighting choices. Moving right along, in September the plumbing aisle will get its new look and new product.
Please mind our messes while we make changes. We always strive to give you great merchandise, customer service and the best shopping experience possible.

Water Wise and Worth It
| |
As drought conditions in California continue, water conservation becomes an even more important subject.. Yes, we all hear the messages on the radio and television: how we need only water our lawns in the early mornings and late evenings, take shorter showers, and repair leaky faucets. However, there are other measures we can take to further reduce our water consumption.
The Environmental Protection Agency states that Americans use more water in our household bathrooms than any other room, so, if we want to cut back, the old lavatory might not be a bad place to start. As one of the most frequently used appliances in the house, toilets can use up to a third of our total household water consumption! Where older models can use approximately two to seven gallons per flush, newer WaterSense certified models are guaranteed to use 1.3 gallons per flush or less!
According to the City of Ripon, most showers use about 2-6 gallons per minute, a rather rapid rate if you have to wait for the water to heat up. Installing hot water circulation systems in our homes could massively reduce the amount of water wasted during this process. These products ensure that hot water will be available all throughout the house during

time periods of your choice by pumping hot water through the hot water line and using the cold water line as the return line. The cold water will be running warmer than usual, but not waiting for hot water could save up to 10,000 gallons of water annually per household. This one device would also do wonders for our water bill while we conserve.
Outside of these appliances, there are countless things we can do every day that would collectively save even larger amounts of water. The Ripon City Public Works Department says that by following their water conservation tips, we can save 10 gallons or more per person daily. If all 14,754 Ripon citizens follow these tips, we can save almost 55 million gallons of water annually! That's enough water to fill 82 Olympic-sized swimming pools!
Our daily actions and behavior make a real impact on out water supply. If we want to keep our lakes and streams full for our children to enjoy, each and every one of us needs to make a decision. We can either make a conscious effort to do our part or let others take up the responsibility.

"REVIVE" Your Dead, Water-Starved Lawn
Back to Life
| |
One of our cooperative staff members at Schemper's was kind enough (or perhaps he was forced) to test a new product on his pathetic, half-dead lawn. The product, Revive, is an organic soil conditioner that claims to improve water penetration and reduce wasteful water runoff, cutting water needs by 30%.
In addition to applying Revive, some adjustments were made to the watering schedule. The previous program consisted of one 15-minute watering session, three days per week, compliant with City of Ripon restrictions. Shorter, more frequent watering sessions supposedly benefit lawns by reducing runoff and keeping the soil moist for longer periods. Hence, the schedule was changed to four 4-minute sessions on the same three days per week.
After just four weeks, the results are conclusive. Revive works, especially when used in conjunction with a shorter, more frequent watering program. To quote our helpful volunteer, "My lawn is as green as my neighbor's now. At 15 bucks a bottle, Revive is a lot more affordable than multiple water citations. According to my neighbor, the citations add up quickly."
A 64-ounce ready-to-spray bottle hooks right up to your garden hose, treats 2000 square feet, and can be used on lawns, flowers, or shrubbery.
Revive, 64 oz. (SKU 7201783), $14.99.

Madi's Patriotic Project | |
With the current drought situation, many people are struggling with balancing gardening and water conservation. Container gardening is a great way to flex your green thumb while saving water. It keeps your yard colorful, and the pot can be a canvas for your creative side.
Painting a flower pot can be a fun and easy project that helps liven up any porch or yard. Depending on the amount of time and detail that is desired, paint can be sprayed or brushed. An extra touch can be added with specialty finishes like crackle paint, or chalkboard finish to write a note. It's really up to you on how much or little detail you include to create a vibrant or a simple look.
This project has unlimited opportunities. It could be used for a classic flower pot, an herb garden, or color arrangement. A homemade project like this can make a great heartfelt gift for any occasion.
Madi's Patriot Planter (pictured above) supplies list:
- 12" Flower pot (SKU 73271)
- Paint - Red: Planet Fever, White: Silent White, Blue: Kate's Ring
- Paint Brushes - set of artist brushes (SKU 11079)
- Tape or Stencils - electrical tape (SKU 33180)
- Sealant - Defthane Satin Finish Aerosol (SKU 12962)
- Moisture Control Soil - Miracle Gro Moisture Control 8 Quart (SKU 7104128)
- Plants - Red Dahlietta, White Vince, Isotoma Mini Blue
Project Notes: The soil used is designed to hold moisture and reduce watering needs. I used electrical tape (as opposed to masking tape) to be able to get the tape to stretch around the pot. Also, I painted the whole pot white and covered where I wanted stars with a cutout, and painted the top ring blue. I recommend sample size paints for this project, which are on sale during the month of August. The whole pint will not be needed, but can be on a later project coming up...
