     The heat is on and what is the quickest way to get cool and refreshed?  A dip in the pool! Schemper's Ace Hardware has the HTH products you need to keep your pool sparkling clean. HTH has  designed an easy 4 step process to keep  your pool clean and blue. Test your pool to measure pH, free available chlorine(FAC), total chlorine, calcium hardness (CH), total alkalinity (TA) and cyanuric acid/stabilizer(CYA). Schemper's Ace Hardware carries 3 different pool test kits. We have a 2 way ( tests chlorine and pH), a 4 way (tests chlorine, pH, alkalinity, and cyanuric acid), and test strips that test free chlorine, pH, total alkalinity, and stabilizer. Your test results will direct you to the products you need for maintaining a clean, sparkling blue pool.                            

  First you need to get the water balanced. Balanced water prevents corrosion, etching, equipment damage and scale buildup. Adjust the alkalinity levels first before adjusting the pH levels.  We carry Alkalinity Plus and muriatic acid to apply to achieve the right level of  alkalinity.   Once you have reached an ideal range for alkalinity, test your pH levels and add the recommended amount of pH plus or pH minus to your pool water.

  

   Second is to sanitize your pool. Stabilized chlorine contains cyanuric acid which protects the water from chlorine loss caused by the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays. On the other hand if the cyanuric acid levels are too high in your pool, over stabilization can occur. Schemper's Ace Hardware carries dual action chlorinating tablets to help stabilize your pool.

 

     Third step is to shock your pool weekly. It is important to shock your pool weekly to protect you and your family from bacteria and organic contaminants. Shocking removes chloramines which cause eye irritation and chlorine odors from the pool water by adding free available chlorine(FAC). After shocking, check to make sure the FAC level is in the range of 1 to 4 ppm before entering in the pool. It's recommended by HTH to shock your pool around the same time each week. Shocking when the sun is down helps the chlorine work better than during the day when it is fighting the suns UV rays. Apply additional shock treatment when you have strong rains, winds, during periods of extreme sun, signs of algae growth, or cloudy/hazy coloring in the water. Schemper's also carries a product called "Green to Blue" shock system. In 24 hours it will transform your green pool into blue, clear water.

 

    Fourth step is to prevent algaecides. Algae are microscopic forms of plant life that can inhibit your pool water. Some algae float in the water while some cling to the sides of the pool. Green algae, mustard algae and black algae are the three different types of algae that can occur in your pool. It is recommended to use a preventative algaecide on a weekly basis. Schemper's Ace Hardware carries Algae guard to help prevent your pool from algae. HTH has color coordinated their product according to the four steps needed to take place to clear up and maintain your pool. Pamphlets are available to help you along the way.
