Maintain your yard with Craftsman | | |
As spring approaches, lawns start to grow greener and flowers begin to bloom. Unfortunately things we don't want to grow in our lawns, such as weeds or crabgrass, grow at the same rate, if not faster than our lawns and plants. While yard maintenance is nothing new to residents of the valley, a specific brand may not be as familiar to you in the power equipment product line. Craftsman is known worldwide for its hand tools, what you may not know is their extensive production of power equipment. In particular, their power equipment for yard maintenance.

Spruce up your lawn | | |
How is your lawn looking? Sparse? Do you have bare spots in your lawn? Spring is an excellent time to patch bare spots in your lawn or over seed your lawn to make it look fuller.
Tips for seeding your lawn:
- Loosen hard soil in bare spots so grass roots can grow through it.
 - Make sure grass seed makes good contact with soil. When applying seed to bare spots, cover with 1/4 of compost or soil
- After applying seed, apply Scott's Turf Builder Starter Liquid Fertilizer.
- Gently water once a day until grass is 2 inches tall.
- Keep pets, mowers, and foot traffic off newly planted lawn until grass is 3 inches tall.
- Re-apply grass seed if seed washes away or is eaten by birds or other animals.
- Do not apply grass seed if you have used a weed seed preventative product in the last 4 months.

How to Grow Plants from a Seed | | |
A Mini-Greenhouse and Peat Pots are great when you want to grow vegetables or flowers starting from seed. It helps to maintain warm temperatures in the soil and air, which aids in  seed germination.
Fill mini-greenhouse seed starter or peat pots with Miracle-Gro Seed Starting Mix. Water well, but do not over water and make it soggy. READ the back of seed packets to see how deep to plant the seeds. Then gently press 2 seeds per cell or 2 seeds per peat pot and cover seeds with a little soil. If possible, place in a warm spot and keep the soil moist, but try not to dislodge seeds when watering. When you're using mini-greenhouses, take  plastic cover off one-twice a day to allow air to circulate, so mold does not form on soil surface.
Once plants have sprouted, make sure they get enough light, so they don't become tall and leggy.Keep the plants protected at night until all chances of frost have past.
When plants have reached transplanting size, you have to get them used to full sun slowly. Put them in the sun for only 1-2 hours a day at first; every 2 days increase time a few hours until they are in the sun all day. Also watch them so they don't dry out while doing this.
**To help make seeds grow faster you can make a germination box. Hang a high wattage light bulb in an upside down cardboard box. Make sure that the light bulbs DOES NOT touch the sides. The warmth radiating from the light bulb will make the top of the box warm to germinate seeds faster.
