 2015 Presidential

Last month we sent out the Presidential Report with a message from our SCS School Board Presidnet, Tom Rietkerk. Take a minute to read the full report and consider giving to your alma mater.

We Thank You
We are so thankful for another year of connecting with our alumni. Our homecoming attendance went up this year, and we look forward to seeing more and more of you as we continue this annual tradition (of course--you're always welcome to stop by and say hello).

It's been quite the year here at SCS. We've had to say goodbye to dear friends this year, but we've also had the opportunity to welcome new families. Building projects--including a new ceiling in the office, new roof for the elementary, and new front doors of the high school building--have been completed thanks to generous donations. We know we'll face more challenges in 2016. We're currently searching for a long-term sub for 6th grade as our teacher takes maternity leave this spring, and we'll soon resume our search for a permanent second grade teacher.

As we look back over 2015 and ahead to 2016, we are trusting in God's faithfulness. We hope you are doing the same. We hope you have an opportunity to enjoy the Christmas season with friends and family, and have a very happy new year.

Thank you to all our alumni who came out for Homecoming Week! It's always fun to see our graduates return to campus and have the opportunity to catch up.

On Tuesday, December 15, we invited alumni to come join us in cheering on our high school basketball teams in league games versus Concrete High School. We had about 30 alumni, ranging from graduation year of 1976 to 2015, join us for the festivities that evening. What a great turn out for a Tuesday night (during finals week for our more recent grads)! The evening kicked off with the boys junior varsity game at 4:30. Following the game, SCS sophomore Chris Sul led a group of Tae Kwon Do  students in a demonstration.  The girls varsity team played next and fought hard against a tough Concrete team. After the conclusion of that game, Watson Groen Christian/Shoreline Christian alumni were invited to the court to participate in a game of Bump. The competition was fierce, but Isaac Ensz, Class of 2015, came out the victor. The boys varsity match-up began about 8 pm and was a close game the whole time. At halftime, we had the opportunity to honor alumna Jill (Rietkerk) Hoogerhyde for her years of service to the school as athletic director. Jill stepped down from the position this fall and is currently saving lives as an EMT through Falck.

Thursday evening, December 17, brought the community together again for our annual Christmas Concert. We had an opportunity to appreciate the musical gifts of SCS students, ranging from fifth grade through high school, as they performed a variety of Christmas tunes with their voices and their instruments. The audience even had opportunity to join with the students for a couple of carols. And of course, we ended the concert with a favorite tradition of inviting the alumni up to join the students for singing "Peace, Peace." Afterwards everyone had the opportunity to enjoy some fellowship over delicious cookies provided by SCS parents.

These Homecoming events were an amazing way to celebrate the past, present, and future of Shoreline Christian. We thank all the alumni who were able to join us for these events. If you missed out this year, we hope to see you next year.

Class of 1995 Summer Reunion
Submitted by Mike Elenbaas

The WGC class of 1995 gathered at Laura and Jesse Glover-Wasson's home in Bremerton in August for their 20 year class reunion. While many of our class have moved out of state or couldn't attend, those that made it enjoyed reminiscing about the good times we had together over the years at Watson Groen Christian. Several families came with kids and they especially enjoyed the late summer weather and jumping on the trampoline in the back yard. Thank you Laura and Jesse for hosting!

Memorial Garden Plaques
In celebration of our 60th anniversary, a space was created for stories - past and present - a memorial garden.

Now we need stories!  You can tell your story on a plaque that will be attached to the faces of the benches.  Learn more here.

Featured Alumni Stories:
Each month we like to feature an Alumni in our newsletter.  This is a great way for alumni to re-connect. We would love to hear from you about where you are and what you are doing now.  Share your story with us.

Did you have a reunion this year? We'd love to hear about it!
