May 25 - June 6: Dog Wash Fundraiser at Weber's Pet Supermarket at Fox Mill, 2599 John Milton Drive, Herndon VA 20171, 703-476-3536 During these two weeks, NVSR receives $10 for every bath given, every day. We have done this for a few years and receive this windfall of more than $600. So, the more people who bathe their dog(s) at Weber's Fox Mill store, the more money we make. Take your dog in for a self-wash, and donate to NVSR at the same time. Look around the store, too - lots of good bargains on high quality pet supplies. Here's the location ...On Saturday, June 6, the last day of our benefit dog wash period, we'll be at Weber's to meet our friends and would-be adopters. Photos for the 2016 Calendar
| It's time to collect photos for our 2016 calendar, one of our ways to celebrate our Shelties - and make money for NVSR, too. Click here for the rules for submission of your photos. We love action shots, pensive moments, funny costumes, and any other beautiful pictures of your Shelties. We have a special section for Shelties that have passed away during the last year, so send us those, too, indicated that they are for the "Rainbow Bridge" section. |
News and Notes

Looking for one of our e-newsletter articles or links from past issues? You can find them in the e-Spin archives.
Here's the link.
Did you know that two things that will give your Sheltie a longer and healthier life are very easy?
Brush your Sheltie's teeth every day (with doggie toothpaste). We see so many dogs come to us with terrible teeth, which affects their appetite and general health.
-
Keep your Sheltie slim. You should be able to feel ribs, backbone and hips easily. Feed high quality food, and just enough of it. Keep treats tiny and infrequent.
The nose knows! Ever wonder how a dog's nose works and why it means to much to them? Click here for a great article and video about the canine nose. You'll be envious! This website also sells music written and played specifically for our canine and feline friends.
Does your Sheltie look uncomfortable or even growl around other dogs when she's on a leash? Read this interesting article about dogs' reactions to other dogs while they're on a leash. Sounds a lot like us - we don't like to get too close either. Some of us even growl!
It's tick season, if you haven't noticed ... yuck! Check your Sheltie regularly for ticks, especially the tiny deer ticks, which can carry Lyme disease. There are several other tick-borne diseases, so get those ticks off your dog as soon as you find them! There are some new tick preventatives on the market, too. Check out the Seresto collar and Nexgard. Here's info on removing a tick.

Quotations We Love

Some people talk to animals. Not many listen, though. -- A. A. Milne, "Winnie-the-Pooh" My little dog - a heartbeat at my feet. -- Edith Wharton
He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion. -- Unknown Everything you do for a dog to help them age well, you should do with them. -- Elizabeth Head, Ph.D. They say it takes only a minute to find a special dog, an hour to get to know him, and a lifetime to forget him. --Anonymous We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare, and love we can spare. In return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made. -- M. Facklam Don't accept your dog's admiration as conclusive evidence that you are wonderful. -- Ann Landers |
