Looking for one of our e-newsletter articles or links from past issues? You can find them in the e-Spin archives.
Here's the link. Want to share dogsitting? NVSR volunteers, John & Stacey Yaglenski (the embroidery folks who make our beautiful items for sale), want to swap dogsitting. They have three wonderful adult dogs (Chloe, Cozmo, and Cara). Doggie Bed and Breakfast is expensive with 2 teenagers in college. They have a trip coming up March 15-21. In return, they'd love to sit for your Shelties when you go away. They have a large fenced yard in Urbana MD. If you can help, e-mail or call 301-401-8909. Thanks! Winter Proof Your Sheltie's Paws. Just because it's cold outside doesn't mean your Sheltie is ready to hibernate. Here's how to protect Lassie's feet so you can both enjoy winter walks. Check out Musher's Secret - better than Vaseline! It's available at pet supply stores.Puddles! - something else to watch out for in the winter - or anytime. Did you know that running through or drinking from puddles might be harmful for your dog? Read on ... February is National Pet Dental Health Month. Your vet clinic may have a "special" for dental cleaning. And, we sincerely hope that you are brushing your dog's teeth regularly. It will save you $$, and her teeth, too! Here's more information about why this is so important. Are you feeding your Sheltie good food - in the right amount? Shelties can easily put on too much weight, so watch their diets carefully. The February issue of The Whole Dog Journal includes their annual survey of dry dog food to help you select the best for your dog. Read the accompanying excellent article, too. Here's another article about choosing good dog food. Sad news. Our dear Cody died much too soon, while playing in his yard in early December. He missed his goal of being a therapy dog by just a few weeks. We mourn his short, but wonderful and inspiring life. His adoptive family enjoyed every minute they had with him. Rest peacefully, Cody.

ASSA National, April 18-25 Fredericksburg VA
The American Shetland Sheepdog Association will hold its National event right here in Virginia this year! Dates are April 18-25, and the Fredericksburg Expo Center is the place (except for herding and agility trials). Hundreds of gorgeous Shelties will be doing what they do best - herding, rally, agility, obedience, and looking perfectly beautiful in the conformation events. NVSR will be there at the Sheltie rescue booth along with lots of other rescue folks from across the country. There will be a parade of rescued performance Shelties on Tuesday, the 21st. (Note that the only dogs allowed to attend are those entered in events.) Here's the schedule and more information.
Sheltie Shop
We have lots of beautiful embroidered items for sale. Check them out on our Sheltie Shop website page. If you don't see what you want - like the color of your Sheltie on a certain shirt - let us know. We can probably have it made for you!
NVSR 2014 Annual Report
2014 was busy - our 15th year. 63 dogs came into our care, in addition to those we had at the beginning of 2014. Our donors remain very generous, and we finished the year in the black. We are always prepared, though, for those expensive Shelties that may come to us. One or two needing extraordinary care can reduce our balance drastically. We sincerely appreciate all the donations we receive. Here's the 2014 annual report. It's also located on our website on the Events and News page.
