NVSR has a NEW website!
|
We've started out 2012, our 13th year(!), with a brand-new website. There is lots there already, and we'll add more pages and information in the future. We've featured many photos of "our" Shelties, which will change from time to time. - Information about Shelties
- How to Adopt
- Our Foster Dogs
- Information about our Permanent Foster and Hospice Programs
- How to Rehome a Sheltie
- How YOU can Volunteer
- Happy Tails (right now it's a fun slide show)
- AND ... The Sheltie Shop, of course
Bookmark us and check in often! Here's the address: www.nvsr.org |
Come and see us ...

Saturday, February 18: Henrico Humane Society Pet Expo, Richmond VA, 10 am to 4:00 pm This is a huge event featuring many rescue groups and lots of pet-related vendors. Look for the NVSR banner. We'll be there with Sheltie items to sell, several Shelties, and lots of information for curious folks. There is lots of parking, and friendly dogs on leash are welcome.
One of our own volunteers, Tami Pohnert, will be demonstrating agility with her Shelties at 10:30 am - come and watch her little Shelties perform. More information and directions ...
Saturday, May 5: Reston Pet Fiesta, Reston VA, 10 am to 4 pm
We never miss this one. It's BIG and lots of fun. We'll have many of our foster dogs there, and we always love to see adopters with their Shelties. Lots of canine-oriented vendors and rescue groups - big crowds of people and canines. More information and directions ...

News and Notes
| The NVSR "Shepherd" - our Follow-up Coordinator, Donna Martin - asks that you reply to her inquiries about your adopted Sheltie(s). She has a huge task keeping up with our more than 700 living adoptees, and we LOVE to hear from you. We welcome your happy news, questions, concerns, and general comments. The deadline for photos for the 2013 calendar - yes, we are planning ahead - is July 1, 2012. We're looking for interesting, cute photos of rescued Shelties at play, at rest, having fun, and just being beautiful. You may submit them by e-mail. The rules are attached.
Nancy Kay, DVM, has incorporated her second book, Your Dog's Best Health: A Dozen Reasonable Things to Expect From Your Vet into the Speaking for Spot Gives Back Program. Now, with the purchase of either book, when you select NVSR from the pulldown menu, 20% of the purchase price will be donated to us. Check out both books on Dr. Kay's website. The American Veterinary Medical Association (AMVA) has published their Guidelines for Responsible Pet Ownership. Good news! These could be the basis for law-making around the country, as well as simply a list of what responsible pet owners should be doing.

Puppies ... we have puppies!
|
NVSR rarely gets a litter of puppies, and we're proud to present three little boys who will be ready for adoption in early March. They will all grow to be small adults. They are: Simon
Simon is a sable merle with two blue eyes. He is a "fast runner around the house" when the pack is let out to exercise.
Alvin Alvin is a sable and white with brown eyes. He tries to lead the pack in its runs around the house.
Theodore Theodore (he prefers the formal version of his name, but he comes to "Teddy," too) is a sable merle with lots of white. He has one blue and one brown eye and usually brings up the rear, but not far behind, during their daily exercise. |
