News and Notes

We'll be at the Vesuvius, Virginia, Heritage Day on October 1. It's a day full of scenery, wine-tastings, trains, farm machinery, bake sales, art, crafts, and much more. Come and see the countryside - and our Shelties.
Be careful to check where your dog treats are made. Read the label carefully. We've heard of dogs poisoned by treats made in China. Look for "Made in U.S.A."!
Along the same line, read about the FDA warnings about feeding your dog chicken jerky.
Dare and his human came to visit from Colorado in late August, and two of our lucky volunteers got to dogsit him while his mom was in a business meeting. Dare is a remarkable two-legged Sheltie who has charmed his way into hearts everywhere. Here he is (far right) with his new friends, Pennie and Benton.
Watch for the October hard copy Sheltie Spin. Here's Anneka perusing the last edition. It gets boring around the house with "Mom" studying all the time. And, that cat, Chloe, just isn't too much fun.
September 17th is Puppymill Awareness Day Take some time to read about puppymills and why they should be eradicated. Tell anyone you know who is planning on purchasing a puppy to go only to reputable breeders. They can be found through AKC. Never purchase a puppy from a pet shop or a "Puppy Cottage". All these puppies come from puppymills, no matter what the proprietor says. No reputable breeder would ever sell puppies in a pet shop. Ask your vet about the puppymill pups he or she has treated. Interested in a new doggie door? If you purchase from Hale Pet Doors, we'll get a portion of your purchase -- and you get a discount, too. Here's the information and a coupon.
Have you seen the YouTube video of the surfing bulldog? Well, that's NOTHING! Take a look at Twig, the skateboarding Sheltie. Down steps, and all ... and, here he is surfing!
Saturday, October 22, is the huge Brooklyn Bridge Pup Crawl to benefit animal shelters and rescue groups. At least 500 "pups" will participate.

$1 Off at Sheltie Shop!
| Remember that helpful little book we gave you when you adopted your darling Sheltie from NVSR? It's called "Second Hand Dog: How to Turn Yours into a First-Rate Pet."
If you've read it and don't need it any longer, please bring it to the picnic, so we can give it to another adopter (and save us a little $$). Bring yours to the picnic, and we'll give you $1 off coupon at our Sheltie Shop.
