Greetings!

It's hard to believe the show is over. Nine days of intense reining competition, outstanding horses and riders, huge payouts, coveted prizes, and the reining community coming together for a deserving cause is what the 2013 High Roller Reining Classic was all about! I find myself in awe of the mind boggling support we received for the event this year. In every aspect of the show the growth was tremendous. I am extremely pleased with the participation in the Prime Time (riders 50 year of age and older) and Masters (riders 60 years of age and older) at the show this year; 47 participants in the Prime Time and 27 in the Masters divisions in both Ancillary slates. In 2012, I submitted the Masters division to the NRHA for approval as a recognized division. It was accepted into the rulebook starting this year. I am so passionate about finding areas in need of expansion, and to see these divisions do so well is just the validation I was hoping for.

Some of the days were long, ending the competition at 10:30-11:00 p.m., but this did not faze our dedicated competitors. There were prizes to be won and money to earn. Even though there were a few long riding nights, there was plenty of time for exhibitors to prepare their horses for the next day's competition.

As the show progressed and we got closer to the Aged events, the pulse of the show was palpable. Watching the Futurity, Stakes, and Derby horses practice gave every reining fan chills knowing what the level of competition was bringing. It did not disappoint!

If you were not able to attend this year, I hope you got to enjoy the show via the Live Internet Broadcast. Al Dunning and Bob Avila were extremely entertaining and educational as they provided commentary of the Open Futurity, Open Stakes and Derby. This footage and commentary is currently in the editing process and will be released as a 30 minute television show highlighting the event. We will be sure to notify everyone when it is completed.

I'd like to thank Rhodes River Ranch, the Whizkey N Diamonds Partnership and Sean McBurney for sponsoring the 4 Year Old Stakes. This new Aged Event Division was a huge hit, not only in prize money, but the benefits it brings to our horses. It is our hope that this Stakes division will spread among the industry as it is vital to the longevity of our performance horses. To all our valuable sponsors, thank you! Without your generous support our event would not be what it is today.

The best of the best came to Las Vegas and left nothing on the table when competing, but the minute they were out of the show pen, it was all about the Reining Community coming together to look after one of it's own. Becky Hanson was diagnosed with a cancerous spine tumor resulting in multiple surgeries and hospital time. In an outpouring of support from the Reining community a silent auction was put together at the HRRC and 'Becky's Little Tumor Adventure' fundraiser was born.

"There is light at the end of a tunnel and someone at the other side of the door if you knock. There is family around us in times of need, a love one cannot describe, a love that takes over, and a smile when most needed: A family, the Reiner family. There is a special Mom that is working through the early hours of the morning and late into the night to make sure another Mom is taken care of. On behalf of all of us thank you Barbi Boyle, for putting together an amazing fundraiser for a wonderful friend, wife, daughter and Mom, our own Becky Hanson. A special thank you to the families, friends, and Brumley Management Group for supporting this special auction".  The words of WCRHA President Ollie Galligan summing up the entire HRRC 2013 experience.
