Private Equity Deal Activity Holding Steady in 2013
An analysis of portfolio company data from privateequityinfo.com shows private equity investment activity has returned to a steady-state level consistent with the number of deals made in 2005.
The chart below shows the number of private equity investments made by U.S. and Canadian firms, normalized to a percentage of deals done in 2005.
- 2007 was the peak investment year for the private equity firms with 47% more investments made compared to 2005.
- Unsurprisingly, in 2009 private equity firms made 27% fewer investments compared to 2005.
- 2010 - 2012 returned to more of a steady-state condition, with approximately the same number of investments as 2005.
