The National Conference of Women's Bar Associations is currently accepting applications for board openings for the two-year term beginning August 5, 2016. Board members are nominated by their member bar association and agree to participate in three in-person meetings a year, as well as in committee work. For more information and a downloadable application form, click here. Completed nomination forms should be sent to [email protected] no later than May 12. Women's Bar Leadership Summit

Plan now to come to San Francisco for our full-day Women's Bar Leadership Summit, which will take place on Friday, August 5. This year's theme is
Advancing Change through Innovative Collaboration. Summit sessions will be held at the Bar Association of San Francisco. Our Awards Luncheon will once again take place in the memorable setting of the City Club of San Francisco, which is a short walk from the Bar Association. At the luncheon, associations which have created notable programs will be honored.
A small block of rooms has been reserved at the Omni San Francisco at the conference rate of $299 plus tax. To get this rate, you must book early and use this link. Not sure if you are the right person to attend the Summit? Click here for more information.

| | Nancy E. O'Malley |
One of the featured speakers at our Women's Bar Leadership Summit will be Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O'Malley. She is known nationally for her work on initiatives on violence against women. She is also a dedicated leader of the women's bar, having served as president of California Women Lawyers. We are delighted that she will be recognized this year as one of the Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement.

Food from the Bar
|
Food From the Bar campaigns have now become a tradition for more than five years in many communities across the US. The NCWBA has assumed a leadership role in launching Food from the Bar campaigns in Washington, DC, Sacramento, and San Diego and in encouraging members of the legal community to participate.
Most Food from the Bar campaigns occur in May, when the wave of year-end giving has subsided just as children are released from school (and meal programs) for summer break. Children's backpack and other programs stabilize the food situation for thousands of families with fresh, nutritious ingredients. Seniors and others at-risk of hunger also benefit from generous donations.
Participants in Food from the Bar campaigns participate in a variety of fun, light-hearted activities raising money to benefit the local regional food banks. Besides food and money contributions, participants often give their time and energy in volunteer shifts where they will sort and pack food for distribution to families, community pantries and other institutions. This year, for example, the Los Angeles Food from the Bar campaign is having a special Super Saturday Bar Association/Family Volunteer Day on May 14th, where members of any local bar association are invited to volunteer and bring their friends and family members. Here's a link to information about the campaign in Kansas City and Topeka.
We invite your legal community to participate in the manner that best suits you or to start a Food from the Bar campaign in your city. So many of us have a friend or loved one who has been the beneficiary of a food bank or community pantry. Many of us have personal histories that include times of need. Food from the Bar is an opportunity to help people in our community get to the point where need is just a memory. Need more ideas? Click here. And let us know about the Food from the Bar in your communities.

NCWBA Listserves
|
The NCWBA maintains three separate listserves. Presidents and Presidents-Elect of our member associations are eligible for our Presidents Circle listserve. Executive Directors and those who take on primary administrative tasks for member organizations which do not have paid staff are eligible for our Executive Directors listserve. Anyone involved with women's bar associations as a leader or member may opt to join our NCWBA listserve on Yahoo Groups. This is an interactive list which is a great resource for referral requests, job announcements and other matters of interest to women's bar associations. To join this list, send us an e-mail with your name and the e-mail which you wish to use, describing your involvement in a women's bar association. Let us know if you know of people who wish to be added to any of our lists.
