GOOD Guys Toolkit Now On Line
How do you make meaningful advances in reducing workplace gender bias? Enlist GOOD Guys--Guys Overcoming Obstacles to Diversity. We hope that bar groups around the country will adapt the tools and ideas presented in our GOOD Guys Toolkit in ways that will work well in addressing bias issues in their own legal communities. Let us know if you have questions about how to develop a GOOD Guys program.

Our GOOD Guys program at the ABA Midyear Meeting provided an opportunity to hear from thought leaders Joan Williams and Sheryl Axelrod about gender bias challenges in the legal workplace and strategies to address them. We also heard personal insights and practical suggestions from a distinguished panel, and were able to honor the men present who support the effort to attain gender equality in the legal profession. For a summary of the program with video clips, click here. The program was co-sponsored by the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession, California Women Lawyers and Lawyers Club of San Diego. We thank the following sponsors for their generous fiscal support:

It's Time to Send in Dues for 2016
Thank you to all who have already sent in their dues for 2016. The organizations which have paid 2016 dues are listed in the left margin of this newsletter. Our membership year runs with the calendar year, which means that this is the right time to send in your organization's membership dues for 2016. Dues for 2016 have not increased, and are based on your organization's membership numbers. We rely on your membership dues and active participation in order to strengthen women's bar groups throughout North America. Click here to download a membership form to send in with your dues check. If you prefer to pay by debit or credit card, click here.
Haven't Made Plans Yet for April?
Finding topics for CLE programs and networking events that will engage the interests of a wide range of members can be challenging. For those who plan well in advance, jotting down suggestions during the course of the year and doing a clear-eyed analysis of events shortly after they have occurred is a great way to ensure that your organization has consistently engaging programming. But for those of us who get caught up short, try finding inspiration from other women's bar groups. Browse their websites and take a look at a few highlighted events, all accessible from our members page. Another source for ideas is what are called "commemorative months." Some, like Black History Month, Women's History Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month, are relatively well known, and can certainly serve as the inspiration for CLEs or featured speakers. But, taking April as an example, how about featuring a financial planner for a Financial Literacy Month event? Or how about organizing an evening out at a jazz club in honor of Jazz Appreciation Month? April 12 is Equal Pay Day--the symbolic day of the year when women's earnings "catch up" with men's earnings from the previous year. Click here for ideas for an Equal Pay Day Luncheon that came out of a brainstorming session at our 2013 Women's Bar Leadership Summit. And don't forget that April 28 is Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. Many bar associations, including Lawyers Club of San Diego and Oregon Women Lawyers, will hold mock trials for child participants over the lunch hour on that day, making a nice change of pace from watching mom stare at her computer monitor and talk on the phone. Click here for more guidance on conducting mock trials for school children.
"Gowning" for Pregnant Lawyers
The Women's Law Forum of the Canadian Bar Association has recently tackled the issue of gowning requirements for pregnant attorneys appearing in court. Although Canadian attorneys no longer wear wigs in court, as do British barristers, they do have rather specific rules for courtroom attire, including the wearing of waistcoats, which don't work well for women in advanced pregnancy. Recently leaders of the Women's Law Forum were able to discuss the matter with judges and chief justices who are sympathetic to the issue. Additionally, a resolution entitled Accommodating Maternity in Court Gowning Directives was passed at the midyear meeting of the Canadian Bar Association. It is hoped that new more accommodating standards will soon be adopted across the country.

Women's Bar Leadership Summit
Plan now to come to San Francisco for our full-day Women's Bar Leadership Summit, which will take place on Friday, August 5. This year's theme is
Advancing Change through Innovative Collaboration. Summit sessions will be held at the Bar Association of San Francisco. Our Awards Luncheon will once again take place in the memorable setting of the City Club of San Francisco, which is a short walk from the Bar Association. A small block of rooms has been reserved at the Omni San Francisco at the conference rate of $299 plus tax. To get this rate, you must book early and use this link. Not sure if you are the right person to attend the Summit? Click here for more information.
NCWBA Listserves
The NCWBA maintains three separate listserves. Presidents and Presidents-Elect of our member associations are eligible for our Presidents Circle listserve.  Executive Directors and those who take on primary administrative tasks for member organizations which do not have paid staff are eligible for our Executive Directors listserve. Anyone involved with women's bar associations as a leader or member may opt to join our NCWBA listserve on Yahoo Groups.  This is an interactive list which is a great resource for referral requests, job announcements and other matters of interest to women's bar associations. To join this list, send us an e-mail with your name and the e-mail which you wish to use, describing your involvement in a women's bar association. Let us know if you know of people who wish to be added to any of our lists.
