National Celebration of Pro Bono Service
October 25-31
ABA President Paulette Brown has asked all lawyers to join in the National Pro Bono Celebration, October 25-31 and in particular, October 30, "And Justice for All: An ABA Day of Service." Women's bar associations, law firms of all sizes and lawyers in any setting can engage in friendly competition to be recognized for their work in providing pro bono services to under-represented populations. Click here for examples of the types of projects that can be undertaken during Pro Bono Week.
Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, with October 19-23 designated as a week of action. For ideas on how to increase awareness of domestic violence, click here. To learn how the Central New York Women's Bar Association created a pro bono clinic for victims of domestic violence, click here.

In Memoriam
Last month we learned of the death of Carole Aciman, 2005-2006 president of the NCWBA. In the days that followed, many of you shared your own memories of Carole. We have now created a more permanent place to share memories of NCWBA board members who have died. Click here to see the "In Memoriam" page. You may post comments, although there will be a delay until they are approved in order to ensure that no spammers post. Keep in mind that anything you write will be visible by anyone searching the internet.

NCWBA Listserves
The NCWBA maintains three separate listserves. Presidents and Presidents-Elect of our member associations are eligible for our Presidents Circle listserve.  Executive Directors and those who take on primary administrative tasks for member organizations which do not have paid staff are eligible for our Executive Directors listserve. Anyone involved with women's bar associations as a leader or member may opt to join our NCWBA listserve on Yahoo Groups.  This is an interactive list which is a great resource for referral requests, job announcements and other matters of interest to women's bar associations. To join this list, send us an e-mail with your name and the e-mail which you wish to use, describing your involvement in a women's bar association. Let us know if you know of people who wish to be added to any of our lists.
