NCWBA Seeks Members to Serve on Judicial Endorsements/Nominations and
Membership Committees
We are currently seeking nominations from our member organizations of individuals interested in serving on our  Judicial Endorsements/Nominations and Membership Committees. This is a wonderful opportunity to promote a member from your organization to actively participate on an NCWBA committee. If appointed to the Membership Committee, your candidate will have a voice in identifying what our member organizations want and need from the NCWBA, while Judicial Endorsements/Nominations Committee members will provide insight on judicial nominations and will be involved in the further promotion of women on the bench.  If you or someone from your organization is interested in joining one of these committees, please contact our Board/Officer Nominating Committee Chair, Katherine Brown, at (603)970-7592, for more information. Nominations are due by December 1, 2014.

NAWL General Counsel Institute

November 6-7, New York

The NCWBA is pleased to be a co-sponsor of the National Association of Women Lawyers' 10th annual General Counsel Institute on November 6-7 at the Intercontinental Hotel in New York City. Members of NCWBA member organizations will receive a 10% discount on registration by entering the code GCINCWBA2014 when registering.
The theme this year is "Strategic Leadership: Developing Legal Expertise and Skills to Enable and Empower Yourself and Others in the 21st Century." In recognition of the GCI's 10th anniversary, NAWL has invited ten general counsels to appear as part of the program, sharing their experiences and what it takes to lead an in-house legal department in 2014. Two GC Keynote addresses are scheduled, with Brad Smith of Microsoft appearing on Thursday November 6th, and Sandra Leung of Bristol-Myers Squibb speaking on Friday November 7th. In addition, attendees will learn about topics of utmost importance to general counsels and their organizations in nine substantive workshop sessions.  We also will hear from Susan Colantuono, CEO of Leading Women, who will speak about the "Missing 33% of the Career Success Equation for Women," and Rebecca Halstead, CEO and Founder of STEADFAST Leadership and Brigadier General, (US Army Ret.)
Registration is open to all in-house counsel. For additional information about NAWL and GCI, click here.

Looking for Resources to Add More Depth to Your Association's Website?

It would be great if you had time to scan the internet and libraries around the world to find topical articles and books to help your members face challenges in their career development, practice and personal life. In the event that you can't take that time, you can add links to your website to existing compilations which will add depth to the resources you already provide.

ABA Commission on Women Learning Library This new service provides audio, video and links to information on books for purchase on topics such as women of color, leadership and negotiating compensation.

MWL Compendium Minnesota Women Lawyers has compiled an extensive library of resources searchable by categories such as "Compensation," "Leadership," and "Barriers."

And remember that bar associations are invited to participate in the ABA Books for Bars program. Your members will receive a 15% discount on the books they buy through the program, while the sponsoring bar association earns a 15% commission. There is no cost to associations to join. For more information, click here.

Save the Date--February 6
 Houston

Have you wondered how to "shatter the echo chamber" and get men involved in changing law practice in ways that will enable everyone to utilize their skills and talents to the fullest without being held back by old stereotypes?  On Friday afternoon, February 6, from 2:30 to 4:30 as part of the ABA midyear meeting in Houston, we will be tackling that issue with a program entitled Men Joining Women for Change: Harnassing the Power of Inclusivity. The program will feature Ida Abbott, author of Sponsoring Women: What Men Need to Know. Click here to hear a podcast interview with Ida Abbott on engaging men to advance women.

Congratulations to Minnesota Women Lawyers Executive Director Debra Pexa on
 15 Years of Service

NCWBA Listserves
The NCWBA maintains three separate listserves. Presidents and Presidents-Elect of our member associations are eligible for our Presidents Circle listserve.  Executive Directors and those who take on primary administrative tasks for member organizations which do not have paid staff are eligible for our Executive Directors listserve. Anyone involved with women's bar associations as a leader or member may opt to join our NCWBA@yahoogroups.com list.  This is an interactive list which is a great resource for referral requests, job announcements and other matters of interest to women's bar associations. To join this list, send us an e-mail with your name and the e-mail which you wish to use, describing your involvement in a women's bar association. Let us know if you know of people who wish to be added to any of our lists.
