Hair Of The Dog Cocktail to Kill A Hangover
Hair-of-the-dog cocktails usually contain several ingredients to get you back in fighting shape. Eggs are the most popular because they contain the protein your struggling body needs. The white goes into any "fizz" cocktail, while the yolk can be seasoned with salt and pepper to be swallowed whole. Many drinks contain fruit and vegetable juices, which inject you with vitamins and help to alleviate headaches caused by dehydration. Additionally, liquors like Fernet Branca have medicinal qualities that, even if they've been debunked, at least deliver bracing flavor that will help open up your bleary eyes.
Michelda
Ingredients: Clamato, Mexican lager, lime juice, Worcestershire, hot sauce, Maggi Seasoning, chili powder
How it will help: Is your head pounding?
Turn to the mighty Michelada. It's a Mexican hangover cure, similar to the Bloody Mary, but with beer in place of vodka. The taste of Clamato (tomato juice flavored with clam broth) is often described as "funky," but it's also delicious and briny. Once you taste the lime and the fiery kick from the hot sauce, you'll be wanting more. A smooth Mexican lager will make the whole concoction complete - easy to drink (perhaps too easy).
Makes 1 serving
Ingredients
* 2 oz. chilled Clamato (optional)
* 1 bottle or can chilled Mexican lager
* 2 oz. fresh lime juice
* 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
* 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce (such as Cholula or Tabasco)
* A couple dashes Maggi Seasoning Kosher salt
* 1/2 tsp. chili powder
* Lime wedges (for serving)
* Ice
Instructions
Mix the salt and chili powder together on a small plate. Rub the rim of a
pint glass or Maison jar with a lime wedge and dip in salt mixture.
Fill the salt-rimmed pint glass with ice.
Pour the Clamato, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, lime juice, and Maggi seasoning in the pint glass. Stir the ingredients together.
Pour beer into the glass, and garnish with lime wedges.
Add beer to glass per individual taste.

Ay Dios Mio! A Mexican Hangover Dish
Chilaquiles with Fried Eggs
Take some lightly fried tortillas, cook them in salsa, and throw eggs, cheese, and beans on top, and you've got chilaquiles: the Mexican hangover cure for the sufferer on the go. Greasy carbs, spicy sauce, and some kind of eggs are the basis of most American hangover cures, too, and chilaquiles aren't really all that different from the hugely popular Israeli hangover warrior, Shakshuka.
This dish is so easy to make that there aren't regional variants as much as family recipes, but we're partial to the recipe our test kitchen came up with (the paprika and honey are nice touches).

 In Case You Missed It
New York Times 10 Best Books of 2015
Here are the year's best books selected by the editors of
The New York Times Book Review
* The Door by Magda Szabo
* The Manuel for Cleaning Women: Selected Stories by Lucia Berlin
* Outline by Rachel Cusk
* The Sellout by Paul Beatty
* The Story of the Lost Child by Elena Ferrante
* Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
* Empire of Cotton" A Global History by Sven Beckert
If sugar was the defining commodity of the 18th century and oil of the 20th, then surely cotton was king in the 19th century. In this sweeping, ambitious and disturbing survey, Beckert takes us through every phase of a global industry that has relied on millions of miserably treated slaves, sharecroppers and millworkers to turn out its product. The industrialization of cotton rested on violence, Beckert tells us, and its story is that of the development of the modern world itself. Even today, he reports, an industry that is always looking for cheaper labor is engaged in a "giant race to the bottom."
* H Is for Hawk by Helen MacDonald
* The Invention of Nature:
Alexander von Humboldt's New World by Andrea Wulf
Alexander von Humboldt may have been the pre-eminent scientist of his era, second in fame only to Napoleon, but outside his native Germany his reputation has faded. Wulf does much to revive our appreciation of this ecological visionary through her lively, impressively researched of his travels and exploits, reminding us of the lasting influence of his primary insight: that the Earth is a single, interconnected organism, one that can be catastrophically damaged by our own destructive actions.
* One of Us: The Story of Anders Breivik and the Massacre in Norway by Asne Seierstad

Coming to CT Science Center
Leonardo da Vinci Machines In Motion
Leonardo da Vinci was much more than the painter of the famed Mona Lisa. He was the original renaissance man, considered the father of invention, innovation, and creativity. He has inspired generations of engineers, architects, artists, and others in pursuit of excellence in design. Today,
his legacy of creative thought is studied in the machines, drawings, and
designs he has left for us to decode, construct, and to set in motion.

APROPOS OF NOTHING
In this breathtaking video, watch Scottish pro street trials rider Danny MacAskill perform a variety of death-defying stunts on Gran Canaria, the second-most populous of Spain's Canary Islands. He's seen riding precariously on rooftops, leaping between buildings, and even somersaulting off a cliff into the sea. Don't try this at home.
