Greetings!
At Home
You Just Never Know What You're Going To Find
December
Greetings!
Ho. Ho. Ho. It's going to snow!
It's coming! Soon our lovely state will be blanketed by the white powder. This year it seems to be a late arrival. Remember Halloween a few years back? Now is the time to prepare. Make sure your heating system is maintained and working properly, your gutters are free from leaves, and if you do lose power, make sure you have a back up plan. With all the gift giving this time of year, remember to give what you can to food banks and to the organizations that sponsor clothing drives. Winter coats, gloves and scarfs are in demand, so before you throw out items of clothing, please donate and share the joy. Great Barrington located in the Berkshires is a great day trip destination. Visit this year's Holiday Stroll which takes place December 12th. If you plan on staying home for the holidays, we listed a few events like Winterfest Hartford, the Atheneum's Festival of Trees, Mark Twain House Tours, and of course the classic family favorite - The Nutcracker. And for those of you who receive Panettone as a gift, but are never quite sure what to do with it, we've solved your problem with a recipe for French toast.
Lastly, we at Aiello wish all of you Happy Holidays. To a joyous December - Aiello

12 Cocktails Of Christmas
There are a number of traditional Christmas cocktails, but in recent years people have gotten very creative. Some people have created Christmas-themed cocktails from scratch, while others have added Christmas twists to existing drink recipes.
Here's a few we found on the popular mixology site -mixthatdrink.com
The Peppermint Stick uses white creme de cacao and peppermint schnapps to get a mint chocolate flavor. Easy to serve one by one or in premixed pitchers.
The Christmas Cookie blends the commonly paired Kahlua and Bailey's with an unexpected shot of peppermint schnapps.
Had enough of the holidays already? Have a Grinch and feel better.
The Santa Shot layers peppermint schnapps, grenadine and green creme de menthe for a beautiful little shot of Christmas spirit.
The Chocolate Raspberry Martini is just what it sounds like. Oh, yes, it is.
The Red Hot Santa Tini uses chili-pepper infused vodka and a rim that's cocoa powder mixed with cayenne. Not your typical Christmas fare.
Tired of being a grown up? Get a Snowball. A blended, creamy drink featuring tequila and cinnamon.
The Red Rudolph is a warm drink that features cinnamon, orange and cranberry flavors and gets topped with whipped cream.
The Candy Cane blends peppermint schnapps with berry vodka and creme de cacao to make a drink that truly passes for dessert.
Eggnog is a tradition for a reason. It tastes great with or without alcohol, which makes it perfect for gatherings that include drinkers and non-drinkers.
Hot Buttered Rum is a classic, cuddly sort of drink - perfect for small parties.
Mulled Wine is a wintertime classic - red wine with sugar and all sorts of spices.

Panettone French Toast Casserole
Finally, a delicious use for the ubiquitous holiday cake that everyone loves to give but no one seems to eat. Panettone's raisins, citron and pine nuts make this rich, custardy breakfast just right for special occasions.
Total Time:
7 hr 35 min
Prep:
5 min
Inactive:
6 hr 20 min
Cook:
1 hr 10 min
Yield:10 to 12 servings
Level: Easy
INGREDIENTS:
Unsalted butter, for greasing the dish
1 large panettone (about 2 pounds)
1 1/2 cups cherry jam
8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
3 1/2 cups half-and-half
6 large eggs
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 cup blanched sliced almonds
Confectioners' sugar, for dusting
DIRECTIONS:
Grease a 2 1/2- to 3-quart casserole dish with butter; set aside.
Cut the panettone into 1-inch-thick slices (you should get about 5 or 6); if you have an odd number of slices, cut one in half. Spread the jam on half the slices. Spread the cream cheese on the other half. Press 1 slice of each together to form sandwiches. Cut the sandwiches into 1-inch squares, and arrange haphazardly in the prepared dish. (Don't worry; this can be a little messy. If the sandwich pieces come apart, just spread them out to fill in the spaces evenly. There's no need to re-form the pieces into sandwich squares.)
Whisk together the half-and-half, eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and salt in a large bowl until combined. Pour evenly over the panettone in the dish. Cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 6 hours up to overnight.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Remove the plastic wrap from the dish, and push down on the casserole. Sprinkle the almonds on top. Bake until puffed and golden brown and the custard is set (the center of the casserole will feel firm when touched), about 1 hour 10 minutes. If the top starts to brown too quickly, loosely cover with foil. Let cool for 20 minutes before serving warm or at room temperature with a dusting of confectioner's sugar.
