Greetings!
At Home
You Just Never Know What You're Going To Find
August
August is here.
Really, what more can be said?
No one ever seems to have a good thing to say about August. It's been bad-mouthed forever. The Anglo-Saxons called it, "Weod Monath "- weed month!
It's given no credit. It's either the "end of the summer," or the "dog days of summer," or "the wilting wait for autumn."
Well, we're here to speak up for August.
We think you should cherish every day of this month. Think of it as a harbinger of change. That whole "back to school - back to the ordinary" life is right around the corner.
Use every day this month as a special treat. A last opportunity to dip a toe in the Sound or picnic under an elm. Ride a roller coaster, discover an open meadow, count the stars in the Milky Way. Rise at five in the morning and greet the sun.
August is the last gift of summer. Enjoy every minute of it.
Now, on with the show.

Speeches Never Made - The Moon Disaster
Found this speech that was prepared in case the first moon landing ended in failure. Thankfully, it never had to be delivered.
"Fate has ordained that the men who went to the moon to explore in peace will stay on the moon to rest in peace. These brave men, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin, know that there is no hope for their recovery. But they also know that there is hope for mankind in their sacrifice.
These two men are laying down their lives in mankind's most noble goal: the search for truth and understanding. They will be mourned by their families and friends; they will be mourned by their nation; they will be mourned by the people of the world; they will be mourned by a Mother Earth that dared send two of her sons into the unknown.
In their exploration, they stirred the people of the world to feel as one; in their sacrifice, they bind more tightly the brotherhood of man. In ancient days, men looked at stars and saw their heroes in the constellations. In modern times, we do much the same, but our heroes are epic men of flesh and blood.
Others will follow, and surely find their way home. Man's search will not be denied. But these men were the first, and they will remain the foremost in our hearts. For every human being who looks up at the moon in the nights to come will know that there is some corner of another world that is forever mankind."

We've Resisted.
Through nearly three years we At Home have not posted a single cat video.
Not even once. Til now. Maybe it's the heat. But, we surrender to the fur. We think you should too.

Hurricane Season Began June 1
We mention this in connection with the simple notion that Aiello Home Services is now one of the largest installers of standby (some call them whole-house) generators.
As we have most recently been reminded - painfully - Connecticut homes are susceptible to extended power outages.
If you want to assure your family's comfort and security, let us tell you about the Koheler and GE standby generators. Aiello handles the entire process from arranging for permits, assisting homeowners with finding propane suppliers and installation of the pad and complete system.
Want to start the process? (It can often take as much as six weeks from permit to turn-on).
Just pick up the phone and say, "Hello, Aiello."

Gettysburg. The Last Invasion. - by Allen Guelzo
July was the 150th anniversary of the battle that turned the Civil War.
This is the latest, impressive, volume on that event from the perspective of ordinary soldiers.
With insights into the impact on politics of the day and the introduction of unique characters, Gettysburg is an unforgettable piece of non-fiction.
Great summer reading.
