Letter From Our Founder
| As-Salaamu-Alaykum Dear MWA Member, We hope you had an especially Happy Mother's Day! It is clear that maternal figures should be applauded all through the year. May you be rewarded for inspiring and nurturing
your children each and every day. You play the most
important role in your children's lives and as the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said
"Heaven lies under the feet of a mother." In April our
members were honored to hear from two accomplished authors at the MWA
Literary Event: Farheen Khan and Sadaf Syed. By sharing their journeys
of how they published their books, they InshAllah motivated other potential
authors in the crowd. Thank you to both women for their
informative presentations. We wish Farheen and Sadaf continued
success.
We hope to see you at the June MWA Community Service Event where you will get an opportunity to contribute a
Refugee Welcome Gift and learn more from Ahlam Mahmoud - our 2010 Inspiring
Woman Awardee. MWA welcomes active participation. We encourage you if
you haven't already done so to please:
- click here to join our email listserv
- become our fan on Facebook
- follow us on Twitter
- and forward this Newsletter to five of your contacts encouraging them to join MWA.
MWA is only
successful because of the commitment and contributions of our members. We look forward to seeing you at the MWA Volunteer Enrollment & Orientation on Tuesday, June 15. MWA
needs your time and talent so that we can continue to make a positive
difference in our communities.
Warm Regards,
 Anisha Ismail Patel |

MWA Literary Event Recap
|
Author Farheen Khan | Author Sadaf Syed | Our April 29th MWA Literary Event showcasing Muslimah authors Farheen Khan and Sadaf Syed was a tremendous success. Khan and Syed spoke about their publishing experience and the
inspirations for their books - Khan's "From Behind the
Veil: A Hijabi's Journey to Happiness" and "I-Cover," Syed's photo-essay
on American Muslim women. Attendees had the opportunity to ask the
authors questions about how to write and publish a book, as well as get
autographed copies of their work. A book drive at this MWA event collected 260 Qurans for
residents of Apna Ghar and 30 children's books for the shelter house to
start a children's
library. To view Literary Event pictures on Flickr click here. |
