summerSummer Recap
We had a wonderful summer here at LaAmistad. The End-of-the-Year Party to celebrate our students, volunteers, partners and supporters was a great time, with an award ceremony for students, a Mariachi band, and dinner provided by parents of the students. The 14th Annual LaAmistad Golf Tournament turned out to be on a beautiful afternoon with dozens of golfers all supporting the organization trough their participation and the purchase of silent auction items. Finally, our LaAmistad Summer Internship Program cruised through the summer months, with 9 interns from 5 different colleges and 1 high school giving over 1,000 hours of service.

mccameyStandout Volunteers
This quarter's Standout Volunteers are Betsy McCamey, pictured right at out annual golf tournament, and Marian Poston. Betsy and Marian have been tutoring at LaAmistad After School for a combined 21 years. This year they can be found in their familiar second grade classroom on Tuesdays at LaAmistad After School. Betsy is a former teacher who provides much needed knowledge of reading and phonics for the students. Marian tutors without any formal teaching experience but shows a heart for the students all the same. Her students return this sentiment and are very appreciate of Marian's time of mentoring and guidance with them. Thank you both for all of your dedicated service to LaAmistad and its students, and we look forward to another great year!

studentStudent Shout-Out

Fernando B. came to LaAmistad as a fourth grade student having never passed one of Georgia's standardized CRCT assessments. After a year of tutoring and mentoring, Fernando gained enough skill and confidence to pass all five CRCTs at the end of this past school year. This quarter's Student Shout-Out goes to Fernando. Thank you for providing your peers, volunteers, and LaAmistad staff with an example of hard work and perserverence as you take advantage of the programming here at LaAmistad. Way to go, Fernando!
