Thoughts from Pat Baillie, Director of Training & Professional Development
The weather has taken its toll on work on the east coast this year. It has been a challenge to set up meetings with folks who are stuck at home because of more snow days. We have been able to take advantage of technology and use phone conferences and webinars to reach out to those who can't get into the office. We have seen a lot of interest in building the basics in workplace equality. Many of those attending are new leaders in their Employee/Business Resource Group or have just gotten involved in LGBT workplace equality.
The great part of these discussions are the new perspectives that attendees bring into the discussion. We are expanding our reach to sectors that are moving into high speed to make their workplace climate welcoming to all. I had a chance to go to Dallas last week and talk with the Army & Air Force Exchange Services management. They are looking at all the same issues that the corporate retail sector is looking at and doing it with federal government support and interest in moving to the next level. Many companies are also looking at the suppliers and even though not mandated by law yet, are asking them to include sexual orientation and gender identity in their EEO policies as well.
We read the headlines and see all the advances we are making in the US, as well as globally, and each of those steps are accomplished by the small steps we make in our daily lives and businesses. It makes a difference and thanks to all of you who live that out every day!
Sincerely,

Trainers' Corner News for Out & Equal Certified Trainers
Q & I just started our second course in learning how to use Moodle, our Learning Management System. It is exciting to see how we set up step-by-step learning modules that provide feedback and can bring together our vast archives and collateral we have been collecting over the years. We are excited to begin work on the next steps and are in the process of meeting with SweetRush, who developed our prototype modules, to see how we can maximize the training we can provide. We also have the capacity to create group discussions and work. We would like to have the trainers be part of this process and come up with some of the key topic areas we should be looking at. Go ahead and send me some topics and we will put them up on the LMS and send the trainers a link to get on the LMS and join in the discussion. Look forward to hearing your thoughts and creating the discussion!
